The Bride Show

In the years 2000 and 2001 Bridal Shows gained popularity in India—designers started participating at Bridal Asia, Bride & Groom, Vivaah and Marwar’s Mega Wedding Show which attracted brides whose budgets for elaborate lehengas and sarees ran into a few lakhs and more. In an attempt to earn big monies from this ready-to-spend audience, exhibitors enthusiastically churned out heavily embroidered wear, gaudy accessories and chunky jewellery. Price points of stuff at such shows sky-rocketed and the number of exhibitors soared. Around 2004, exclusive designers whose forte was rich yet understated creations opted out of participating at such exhibitions. Today Vivaah, Bride & Groom and Mega Wedding Show continue to attract a huge number of exhibitors working on the philosophy of ‘more is beautiful’ and a large nouveau riche audience flock to see their glittering wares. Some designers who create modern and expensive creations for cosmopolitan brides prefer exhibiting at Bridal Asia or at shows abroad which target both the Indian and International audience, like the Bride show in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Anita Rodricks who represents The Bride show in India says this year some of the exclusive labels participating in Dubai include Malaga, Bina Modi and Queenie Dhody.

The dates of the shows are 10th to 13th Feb (Abu Dhabi) and 7th to 10th April (Dubai). If you’d like to participate call Anita Rodricks on +91 9820279579 or visit www.thebrideshow.com
