Love Actually – Kiran Ganwani and Vipul Kadam’s Platinum Day of Love

Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates beautiful people as they start their lives together, knowing their love is timeless.

Like so many urban Indian stories, Vipul and Kiran knew each other from glances across the short distance between their homes. “Our balconies faced each other,” Vipul says, “So we’d peek into each other’s homes hoping to see each other.” Vipul, who works in the paper and chemical industry, is an introvert so it fell upon his sister to take the initiative and introduce him to Kiran. “I was 17 and she was 14 when we first met,” he remembers, “I liked her right away. Her bubbly, friendly personality attracted me to her instantly.”

As time went by and they got older, their friendship graduated into date nights and regular phone calls and soon these childhood sweethearts realised there was something deeper to this relationship. After seven years of dating, Kiran proposed to Vipul. He smiles, “She knew I was too shy to make the first move. She understood and when she proposed to me, I said yes immediately!“

It wasn’t as easy convincing the families. Vipul is Maharashtrian and Kiran is Sindhi and it took a year, though Vipul says, “Once I introduced Kiran to my family they all immediately really liked her!”

With the wedding and engagement scheduled for next year, the couple is not too overwrought with wedding preparations. Vipul has conveniently decided to just rely on his future wife’s excellent taste and judgement, “She is very good at this. I just help her whenever necessary.” The wedding will be a traditional Maharashtrian ceremony as a nod to Vipul’s family and will feature a strictly vegetarian menu with both Maharashtrian and Sindhi influences.

Kiran has taken time off from studying to be a lawyer to plan the wedding and recommends WeddingSutra as a comrade in arms. The ‘fun’ aspect was a bonus. Describing the experience as phenomenal, she says, “Our friends were featured on ‘Love Actually’ last year and that is how we first heard about it. We wrote in to WeddingSutra and were delighted when we were called for the shoot. It was a dream come true for me!”

The location for their shoot was Mumbai’s newest luxury hotel– Taj Santacruz. The expansive lobby at Taj Santacruz surrounded by Indian artefacts and the soft light emerging from the overhead crystal and glass chandeliers provided an opulent backdrop to the shoot. And with its distinctive design, spacious rooms and warm service, it was truly a delight for Team WeddingSutra to spend the day and photograph the beautiful couple at the hotel.

While the shoot went on, the bride-to-be talked about why they love Platinum love bands. “We’ve always thought of having platinum bands for us. Simple yet elegant, they are a beautiful symbol to signify love and togetherness.” WeddingSutra wishes Kiran and Vipul a wonderful ‘Happily Ever After’ – may the precious bond of everlasting love add more happiness and joy in their marriage!
