Miss Malini’s Bridal Picks

Celebrity Blogger Miss Malini is tying the knot at a beach-theme celebration in Goa. She talks to Weddingsutra about her wedding wear and her favourite shopping haunts.

Wedding Details
I’m a lucky girl I get to have TWO weddings! The first one is in Dhaka on December 20-21st, which will be more traditional with an Akht-Gaye Holud-Reception, the second one is more for friends and fun in Goa on February 10-11th with a mehendi-sangeet-baraat-pheras-cocktails at Montego Bay and Marbela Beach Resort in Morjim Goa (Marbela is my ultimate dream wedding destination, so psyched I got it!). It’s a beach theme so everything from the invites to the setting will be chosen keeping that in mind. For instance I want my invitations to be glass bottles with a rolled up scroll inside, like a “message in a bottle”.

Wedding Wear
For the sangeet I’ve picked a cute pink lehenga from Anita Dongre’s latest collection, I’m trying to decide whether to go with a gold high neck choli or a ruffled pink one. Anita is also designing a short lehenga in ink blue for my Mehendi as well as the rest of my clothes for Dhaka and Goa! I’m sourcing all my jewellery from Anmol Jewellers in Bandra (they did Shilpa Shetty and Lara Dutta’s wedding jewellery too!)

Best go-to spots for brides in Mumbai
I’m not a panicky bride (at least not yet) my advice would be to stay updated about designer showcases, sales and only immediately buy something only if you really love it, chances are something prettier and more flattering will come along if you just give it another go.

I am a self-proclaimed domestically challenged desi bride so I’ve left my major wedding decisions to my fabulous wedding planners Marry Me Weddings. Since Candice of Marry Me Weddings does this for a living I’ve asked her to compile her top five go-to spots for you!

1. For your wedding and trousseau, start by making a list of your functions and/or outfits and then look through magazines and collect as many magazine clippings to make things easier. Apart from the designer wear, Sagar Couture is also worth checking it for its fabulous range of fabrics. Troy Costa does great menswear, and is the best person to make sure your groom’s clothes perfectly complement yours!

2. I say go all out and splurge (if you feel like) on your footwear! You will most likely get a lot of use out of them, even after the wedding. So if you have been eyeing that pair of Jimmy Choos or Louboutins for a while, this is the best time to indulge. Your best option would be to buy your shoes if you are travelling overseas. The styles, fit and comfort is unbeatable. If you must buy in India, Rinaldi is a great option. Her bling shoes are perfect for the Indian bride and comfortable too.

3. Meera Mahadevia’s bags are stylish and luxurious perfect for the Indian bride. Keep a stash of emergency items in this stylish bag and hand it over to your best friend who will most likely be around you most of the night. As a bride, I always say it’s best to keep your hands free, but if you must have a bag – it has to be super stylish!

4. Don’t forget about your skin! Drink lots of water, exercise and don’t go on a binge diet. It will show. For facials in Mumbai I recommend Vinu in Khar who does a fabulous job and uses some amazing products!

5. ‘Tip Top’ store is fabulous for bangles and bindis. The range and options available there are unbeatable!

Anita Dongre presents gorgeous Rajasthan inspired bridal collection at Lakme Fashion Week

Remaining true to her roots, Anita Dongre once again dazzled the audience with her magical bridal collection inspired by the beauty and grandeur of Rajasthan at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2011. From sensuous saris, swirling lehengas, dramatic jackets, to stylish salwar kameez duos, Anita moved into the western region with some stunning gowns but stayed true to the ethnic touches for them. Shades of the desert– beige, rust, fiery red, cobalt, ink, black and white formed a mélange of colours for the lovely prints and glittering embellishments. It was a gorgeous collection from Anita Dongre that paid fashionable tribute to the land of the Rajputs that will appeal to the sartorial sensibilities of brides anywhere in India.

Anita Dongre’s Timless Collection breezes through LFW 2011 Summer/ Resort

Anita Dongre’s Timeless at the LFW this season was like a cool breeze on a hot Mumbai evening. Titled “Love and Life”, this summer line in cool ecru had tiny discreet hints of rose pink, powder blue and pale yellow but was mostly white and beige. We loved the use of Mul, a versatile fabric and a favourite of Anita. And we loved it more ’cause Anita  had it made especially from the Fair Trade yarn produced by farmers connected with the Shop for Change movement. Just the cholis felt a tad ill-fitted but all-in-all a very wearable collection.

Anita Dongre takes us to Rajasthan at Lakme Fashion Week

Inspired by the Rajasthan village woman, Anita presented a collection of western and indian wear that was vibrant earthy, with gorgeous colours, prints, and embellishments. But what stole the show was stunning silver jewellery by top jewellers, Amrapali.

Top Picks: muted grey-red-gold ghagras and those delicious clutches.

Amrapali Glams up the Jewellery Week

After spotting gorgeous jewellery pieces on Bollywood’s leading ladies at the India International Jewellery Week, we were full of anticipation when we heard that Amrapali is showing. We are glad to report that we were not disappointed. Neither were the many female celebrities who turned up to watch the show. We spotted Ila Arun and her daughter Isshita Arun, actress Kiron Kher, Alka Yagnik, Anita Dongre, Neena Gupta and her fashion designer daughter Masaba.  The very beautiful Konkana Sen Sharma opened the Amrapali show wearing a five-row kundan neck piece, armlet, bangles, earrings and a choker.

So which of these jewellery pieces is your favorite?

Anita Dongre does sexy ethnic evening wear for LFW

Anita Dongre presented “Timeless” collection on the final day of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2010 featuring ethnic eveningwear, sheer whites, sparkling embroidery and sexy silhouettes. Saris came in shades of palest of pink, blue and of course crème with twinkling work all over.

Swirly Kurtas in mul with gota embroidery, kurtis worn with silver tights, sexy cholis, long skirts/ lehengas embroidered with the dazzling motifs of the desert region and highlighted with silver work – all beautifully blended to complete the collection.

The easy-chic vibe of this range will set the tone for your summer soirees!

Girls in Gold and Groom in Black

In our last post we said Timmy looks good in whatever he wears—we take back our words. For the Sangeet on 27th November, Esha glowed in a gold Neeta Lulla ensemble, but Timmy turned a bit too adventurous and wore a black sleeveless Nehru Jacket. Why sleeveless, we fail to understand! He didn’t look festive nor elegant— just stiff and staid! Timmy attempted to do a first time for the groom—in the pink pants, which he carried off well. Then he wore a heavily embroidered pink kurta, which also looked great. But he failed to impress in the ‘Groom in black’ look.

We loved Esha’s lehenga – but the long choli, we don’t get!
