Arundhati Roy and Ratul Das, Bangladesh National Parliament House, Dhaka

Hosting the wedding ceremony at the Bangladesh National Parliament House and flying in 38 chefs from Delhi for the sangeet - this wedding in Dhaka was a spectacular one!

As an architect, bride Arundhati Roy wanted her special day with Ratul Das to be hosted at an iconic place that she admired ardently. And, her dream did come true! An extraordinary celebration which left nothing to the imagination, this union was planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Plush Weddings.

Wedding Planning
As an architect student, Arundhati was keen on ensuring every venue spoke to her sense of aesthetics. And, for the big day, it had to be an architectural marvel of Bangladesh designed by the architectural great, Louis Kahn. The bride shares, “Each venue was carefully selected and close to our place. However, I wanted to tie the knot somewhere special and as a big fan of the architect Louis Kahn, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of tying the knot at our country’s Parliament House!”

Helming their wedding planning was Plush Weddings who impressed the couple with their proactiveness and their willingness to go the extra mile. Arundhati shares, “Plush Weddings flew from Delhi for our Dhaka wedding. It was uncharted territory for them given it was their first wedding in Dhaka. But they did the job impeccably! We are so glad to have them as such an important part of our wedding. Due to their expertise, we could execute this larger-than-life wedding which we had dreamt of all our lives!”

Wedding Functions
Engagement
Arundhati shares, “For our engagement, we chose a theme inspired by the British High Tea. Starting from my Sabyasachi saree to the decor everything complimented each other. The floral prints, the rich hues, the pastel blooms around our seating area and the backdrop just clicked so well together. Plus, we also added vintage telephones to the decor setup to add an old-school touch to the ceremony.”

Sangeet
The sangeet was a glam celebration where the team went out of their way to curate the perfect Indian Bazaar experience. Arundhati shares, “Sangeet decor resembled an Indian bazaar. We had 38 chefs fly in from Delhi just to cook for us! It was an entire bazaar where we gave away jewellery, safa, rings, pocket squares, mirrors and so much more. The glasshouses installed were the only thing that we needed to give our bazaar that unique touch.”

Haldi
Referred to as the ‘Holud’ which translates to haldi in Bengali, the couple’s haldi ceremony was a profusion of yellow and pink hues. Floral arches, ethnic prints on the upholstery and flooring and quirky Rajasthani backdrops kept the guests awestruck at this outdoor celebration.

Wedding
Arundhati shares, “We tied the knot in a Hindu wedding with a heightened Kunj where we took our pheras. It was placed in a way everyone could see us from every part of the venue. We had musicians playing at the back with traditional sitar, flute and shehnai. Plus, arches bedecked with roses added gave the venue a lush feel.”

Reception
The bride shares, “We had a cocktail party for our reception. The reception decor included multiple disco balls and crystal chandeliers for the ceiling. The hallways also had multiple installations. The black and white decor and prints were placed so majestic that it was a beautiful ending to our wedding festivities!”
