What I wore for the different wedding functions
I am Hindu and Aman is Sikh, so we had two wedding ceremonies and a reception! For our Sikh ceremony, my outfits were given to me by my in-laws, so I had no say in the selection process. I wore a traditional maroon lehnga with gold embroidery, gold jewelry (also given to me by my in-laws), and the traditional, Punjabi, red-and-white bridal bangles.
For our Hindu wedding, my goal was to look simple and elegant. I chose a maroon sari with gold embroidery and stonework, and jewelry with white and maroon stonework set in gold (which I loved!)

The
Wedding |
My most prized possession? My reception outfit! It was everything I had ever dreamed of for my wedding. I wanted a look of classic elegance, like a princess, so I chose a designer piece – an off-white lehnga with a "train" – and a diamond set. I kept the train on for my entrance and our first dance, and removed it for the rest of the reception.

My makeup and hairstyle for the big day and wedding reception
My makeup and hair were done by Imoi, of Imoi Salon in New Jersey. I had a very traditional but natural look for the wedding ceremonies, while for the reception, I went for simple and elegant. Imoi emphasized my eyes and made them stand out, while she chose a neutral color for my lips.
At the wedding, I had my hair in a bun, because it was covered with the dupatta for both ceremonies, but for the reception, my hair was in an up-do with small tight curls. Imoi really did an amazing job and gave me exactly the look I wanted.
Where I shopped
I shopped for all of my wedding clothes in Mumbai. The outfit for my sangeet, as well as my wedding reception lehenga, were designed by Rima Tulsiani of Mumbai. The wedding lehenga my in-laws gave me was from Punjab.
My advice for brides-to-be
Stop and take time to enjoy every moment of your wedding day! Forget all of the planning, the details, and the stress about making sure everything goes perfectly, and just enjoy! When you get to that day, the details should not even be on your mind – they are not your concern. Savour every moment, because this event is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you don’t want to miss out on it by worrying about the little things.
