When Deepali Surti and Sapan Vyas first met they both knew….this was it. Soon enough they set out to put together the most beautiful experience of their lives- their wedding. It was to be hosted in Denver with the Henna/Sangeet at the Surti Residence, followed by the Garba at the Lone Tree Recreation Center and the finale’ Wedding/Reception at the Denver Center of Performing Art (www.dcpa.org).
The Style Statement
The look Deepali wanted to achieve at her wedding was "simple elegance". Gorgeous, yet comfortable, definitely not “overdoing” anything and most importantly the goal was to look like herself. She wanted to be the most distinct person in the room which was
to be achieved by having the most beautiful dress, elegant jewelry, natural makeup and a big smile! :)
Putting the look together
Like most working brides, who are unable to take out enough time to make the trip to India, Deepali had to depend on her mother to shop for the wedding clothes in Delhi and Mumbai. Her mother came back from India with some beautiful outfits but somewhere in her heart, Deepali felt these were not the outfits she was looking for. Keeping in mind all the finances spent shopping in India, she decided to wear all the purchases for the wedding and pre-wedding functions but for the Reception, she decided to buy herself the perfect piece. A one piece she had dreamt of forever!!!
Anxious and apprehensive, Deepali scouted around the various bridal expos and bridal boutiques and finally visited the Shehnaai Studio (www.shehnaaiusa.com, (T: 917-519-5456)) in Manhattan where her instant reaction was “I want EVERYTHING in the store”. Says Deepali: “After looking at everything, I kept coming back to this gold lehnga I had seen the minute I had walked in. Both Shirin (shirin@shehnaaiusa.com) and Anjali of Shehnaai Studio were great at giving their opinion and helping me visualize how the dress would come out after all the customizing. I wasn't sure about the corset look; however, two months later after the ensemble was ready, the whole look pulled together looked amazing. When I finally tried it on -- I truly felt like a bride.”

With the hair and makeup she knew exactly what was needed. Says Deepali: “I wanted to keep it very simple, elegant and natural. For my hair I opted for flowing curls and not a tied-up beehive look, since that's not how I normally look. And the hairstyle made me look soft and natural.” Being a makeup artist by interest, Deepali did her own makeup. Here again the goal was not to go for an overly made-up look. “I didn't want to look pasty white with too much powder or ‘cakey’ with too much foundation; I used a bold lipstick to make a statement and balanced it with other neutral/natural colors I was wearing”.

My advice for Brides-to-be
On your wedding day all the guests are there to see you happy. So have fun and don’t sweat the small stuff. All the hard work that you put into the details of your wedding are appreciated by your guests and you'll hear about it once your wedding is over. So don't sweat the small stuff, because it’s ALL small stuff. Make sure you smile and have fun...because the man you’re marrying won't care if you are wearing fake eyelashes-- he's marrying you because he thinks you are beautiful ALL the time!
