About
Krista and Nitin
Nitin grew up Dehradun and after school moved
to Switzerland to pursue a degree in Hotel Management. He has
worked in leading hotel chains in Europe, USA and Australia and is
currently the General Manager of the Vibe Savoy Hotel, Melbourne.
Krista Burke grew up in Melbourne and studied Bachelor of Arts
majoring in Opera. She spent twelve months backpacking in Asia,
Middle East, Europe, USA and Canada and on her return pursued a
career in the tourism industry. She is now employed by BHP
Billiton as an HR Consultant.
Our Story
We met when I
took my Mother on a cruise for her 50th Birthday around
the South Pacific-- visiting destinations such as Fiji and
Vanuatu. Nitin was working onboard the ship and it turned out to
be “our love boat”. Upon returning to Sydney and after fourteen
nights at sea, Nitin asked me to travel to India to meet his
family. Six years later we are husband and wife.
Invitations
We used the
website
www.indianweddingcard.com to order our wedding invites. I
chose an amazing scroll which was made in Jaipur and delivered in
Australia
. It was printed on cream velvet with gold
writing, and encased in a copper color pressed tin scroll and
contained in a cardboard box for individual postage.
About the Wedding
The wedding was
held at the Madhuban Hotel, Dehradun, one of the largest wedding
venues that could cater to our requirement. We used all the three
gardens at the Madhuban hotel—one area was for food, the other for
drinks and the other was the Mandap area. We had also set up two
large screens so everyone could view the wedding ceremony.
We had a
traditional Hindu ceremony over three days—which included all the
traditional functions-- mehendi, ladies sangeet, haldi etc. We had
some friends and family come from Australia and the guest list
topped over eleven hundred.
Nitin's brother,
Ankur and his wife Meenakshi along with the entire Jakhwal family
managed the event and did an amazing job with many special touches
that added to our wedding being a truly special experience for all
who attended.
Wedding Attire
My outfit was
designed by Ratna Jain whose studio ‘Tantra’ is located in Delhi.
My brother-in-law had sent me some wedding magazines where I saw
her lehengas which I thought were eye-catching. I met her at her
showroom in M24 Main Road, GK 1, New Delhi. I told her that I
would be more comfortable in a lehenga than in a saree. She
designed a watermelon colour lehenga with heavy jewel work. Nitin
wore the traditional kurta and a tailor-made linen trouser. The
other store I enjoyed shopping at was at CTC Plaza in Delhi. I
purchased some lovely tops from CTC Plaza which came in handy
during the pre-wedding days in Dehradun.
Honeymoon
We spent four
nights in Hong Kong where we stayed at the Langham Place Hotel in
Mongkok Kowloon. We returned home to discover that we had brought
our very own treasured piece of Hong Kong back with us and are
expecting our first baby in February 2007.
Our new home
We purchased our
first home in Adelaide, South Australia. It is an ideal location
with a lake in the front and a beach behind. Growing up in
Australia it is natural to want a home close to the sea—so it
gives a feeling of being on holiday through the year. |
