The
Wedding Ceremonies
Karishma
and her family were lucky. Since the wedding was in
Manmeet’s home town Gwalior all the wedding
arrangements were taken care of by him and his brother.
“Till the eleventh hour, Manmeet was running around
co-ordinating with the service providers. Even while we
were dancing he was getting SOS calls from the vendors.
But he handled all the chaos really well, and had fun
simultaneously. He also played perfect host by taking
care of the minute details and ensuring that the bride,
her family and friends enjoy themselves thoroughly.”
The
wedding ceremonies began with the Mehendi function on
the afternoon of 12th Dec and the evening saw a cocktail
party. On 13th Dec the groom came to the bride’s place
to perform the Jaymal ceremony. The wedding took place
on 14th Dec at a Gurudwara. The barat was a royal
procession with an elephant leading a kilometer long
convoy of eight army horses and six canons. The groom
sat in a grand horse carriage while a band of 150 people
danced on. The reception was held the same night.
“All
of us had a ball in Gwalior. We got a lot of attention
from everyone in the city, making us feel even more
special. The week long celebrating and dancing over, we
were left with no energy to plan or organize our
scheduled reception in Mumbai.”
