Roopal Kubavat and Christoffer Johansson
Roopal and Christoffer on their Christian and Hindu Wedding ceremonies in Sweden.

About The Couple

Roopal and Christoffer live in South West Sweden in Jonkoping city. Roopal´s grandparents and father came to Sweden in 1973 from Uganda and her mother is from India. Roopal and her younger brother and sister are all born in Sweden. Her family is Gujarati.

Christoffer is from a town called Habo, not far from Jonkoping. He moved to Jonkoping in 1999 when he started to work as an Implementation Engineer for a telecom company. His parents, brother and sister live in Habo.

“Even though we are from different cultural backgrounds, our open-minded personalities has made it very easy for us and we find that it the most important character in strengthening our relationship”.

The couple is now moving to Gothenburg and start their married life down there."

How They Met
They first met in 2002 in the company where they both worked. Soon Roopal went on holiday and left Sweden for 4 weeks. In the meanwhile they were in contact all the time. When Roopal returned from her holiday they both knew they were meant to be together. “Once we knew this we started to plan our next steps. We got engaged (the Swedish way) on 9th June 2003 and the happy occasion was witnessed by our families over a dinner.”

The Shopping Trip to Ahmedabad
“After the engagement, we had 14 months to plan our two big weddings and several other occasions plus a shopping trip to Ahmedabad, India. The shopping in India was the first milestone in our planning. Since the wedding was in Sweden (where you cannot find any wedding items) we had to buy everything from invitation cards, sherwanis, sarees, weeding dress, jewellery, mandap decoration pieces, wedding ceremony items and so much more.”

Christian Church Wedding
The wedding ceremony started at 2.30 pm in Christopher’s hometown Habo. After the wedding ceremony a reception was held with a three-course dinner, a big wedding cake and fine entertainment acts by the bride and groom’s families and friends.
