When: December 2003
Where: Scotland and Italy
Hollywood star
Kevin Costner and handbag designer Christine Baumgartner
- avid golfers who met on the links - began their honeymoon in Scotland at the world famous Royal and Ancient Course in Saint Andrews. After that, they traveled to Italy, to Viareggio, one of the most beautiful seaside resorts of Tuscany.
In
Scotland, they stayed at the Old Course Hotel. Located in the home of golf, the hotel overlooks the famous Old Course links (where golf was first played 600 years ago). So if sinking a hole is your happiest honeymoon idea, you’ll enjoy one of 134 rooms with Italian marble baths and balconies that boast views of the 17th fairway.
Upon arrival at the hotel, you’re given a choice of champagne and smoked
salmon or Guinness and oysters. There’s also a spa that specializes in
relaxing three-hour “rituals.”
“It’s a magical place,” says Kevin. “When the sun comes out, it’s really beautiful.” But he insists they didn’t spend every waking moment on the green: “Let’s just say we didn’t play golf all the time!”
Christine, acknowledged by the actor as the more accomplished golfer of the pair, watched from the sidelines as her husband participated in the annual Dunhill Tournament alongside celebrities such as Hugh Grant and Michael Douglas.
