Visited: Scotland, London and Switzerland
We went to Scotland, London
and Switzerland for our honeymoon and spent 18 days holidaying!
In Scotland we stayed at a
RCI Gold Crown Resort in a place named Kilconquhar in the district of FIFE. It was a
castle converted into a resort and we had the best time of our lives. We had a 4-room
cottage all to ourselves. The cottage even had a private Sauna and a well-equipped
kitchen. It was just perfect and since it was an RCI resort the rentals were reasonable.
We made RCI Gold Crown Resort
our base and from there we traveled to various places everyday. One night we went to a
place called INVERNESS (a friend of ours suggested this beautiful destination).
After a week in Scotland we
left for London where we stayed at an Economical hotel named TRAVEL INN. London is a very
crowded city and is full of Indians so you feel at home. But it is certainly NOT a
honeymoon destination.
After two days in London we
left for Switzerland. We landed at Zurich and left for a small village named Zermatt in
the South Switzerland. In Zermatt we stayed at a very nice 3 star hotel named Simi. From
there we went to Gornergrat that is 3090m/ above sea level. This was the first time we
experienced SNOW. We spent two days there after which we left for Interlaken where we
stayed at Bernerhof, which in our opinion was just an ok hotel. On the first day we took a
boat and went to a place called Thun. We then left for Jungfraujoch at the top of Europe.
This place has snow all year long and we went mad with excitement sliding on the snow.
After two days we left for
Lucern. On the first day we chilled. The next day we left for PILATUS. We had a cool boat
ride and came back in a cable car. It was all great fun. We then left for MONTREUX which
is in West Switzerland. This was the best and most enjoyable place in Switzerland. It was
a perfect town, like a place depicted in an Archie Comic. And both of us just wished we
could settle down there. At night, we tried our hand at Gambling but we lost a lot of
money. This place was a little hot and the hotels in Switzerland have no fans or
air-conditioners so the nights were a little stuffy.
ADVICE:
1. Make your bookings as soon as you decide on where you want to go.
2. If you can, try and make your own bookings. The package tours usually arrange for
not-so-good hotels. If this is possible, take an individual but not a group package tour
(remember, you are going on a honeymoon and not a picnic).
3. Buy passes for public transport. There are weekly passes that turn out to be much
cheaper than individual tickets.
4. Remember, you will have to carry around your own luggage. So travel light. Your clothes
will not get dirty in places like Scotland and Switzerland. Just carry two jeans and a few
t-shirts and sweaters.
5. In London and Switzerland vegetarians won't face a problem so there is no need to carry
ready-to-cook vegetarian meals. But you can take along some dry snacks.
6. Don't waste money on fancy five-star hotels. Three star hotels are good enough as you
won't be spending too much time in the rooms.
7. Try to spend at least 2 full days in each destination. Else the trip gets very tiring.
