Visited: Mauritius
Stayed at: Berjaya Le Morne, a 4 star resort
Number of Days: 7

Stay Advice: A 2 star or 3 star comes cheap .. but Berjaya is worth your money since you are going to be spending maximum time inside the hotel. The city goes dead after 7 p.m. so it is the hotel where you spend a lot of time… so choose a nice, decent to keep you entertained. Moreover, if it is raining (since it's a tropical climate) you may have to stay indoors!! Berjaya Le Morne offers a swimming pool with a bar (formed in an island way), it has a disco (pretty dead though), a gazebo (a stage where local dance is usually performed during the evening). The cottages are surrounded with palm trees and the hotel provides free golf cart rides to your cottage in case you don't feel walking that extra mile!

Best Memory
A ride to blue safari submarine. You are taken 130 feet deep in the ocean, where you explore life as it is. You see what you can never see unless you dive that deep! For a non-diver, it is a dream come true! A must-see since this experience is available only in two places across the world.

A Scary Incident
We started at 9 a.m. on our Catamaran cruise (it usually takes 6 hours). We cruised with food and drinks and merried till mid-sea. Then we had to stay in mid-sea and take a break for some people who wanted to just dive the DO THE DEW way. The catamaran was halted and we had 2 small boats to generally take us around in case you wish (while the cruiser takes a break).

At the point of starting again we noticed we were in low tide with depth as little as 5 feet (no one paid attention). The Catamaran didn't move in that shallow depth. We abandoned the catamaran after one and a half hours of trying in those small boats...pushing it and people trying hard to move it. We (25 people) started to go off-shore in small boats then. In mid-sea we noticed that the engine failed after 10 minutes. The second boat engine was tried to fit in this one, but it didn't work so we roped our boat with the other boat and it started to pull us. It pulled for 20 minutes and ran off petrol. The petrol was filled and we prayed it doesn't finish now. We had to return by 3 p.m. and it was already 5.30 p.m. (getting a little dark) and it started to rain. We asked for live-jackets but they didn't have any! It was so scary. I then observed that my shoes were dancing away left to right in the boat (there was water in the boat because of the rain and some small leakage).

I WAS REMEMBERING TITANIC THEN!
The local people who were navigating the boats didn't know much English and were hesitant to ask for emergency assistance. Somehow we called the organiser from my cellphone (which fortunately had global roaming) and got the coast guards and managed to get off shore at 7 p.m.

Must-Knows and Must-Avoids
1. If you're going abroad make sure your cell has global roaming. Ask me how much I thank my stars (now I know what it means to have a cellphone).
2. Do not try sex in the moonlight (the KS advice on the web)
3. Water costs 175 a bottle in the hotel, so take one from the market, it costs only 40. Similarly a bottle of wine costs 80 while the hotel charges you only 175 a glass. So take the bottle, chill it in the room and make merry .. the hotel doesn't mind at all!
4. Phone costs- 160/minute to India. Please use a phone card, it costs only 500 and is much better!
5. Avoid the zoo.
6. Avoid excess drinking and going into the beach. Life guards are there but then they can't track everyone .. in the name of privacy. You can surely skip the glass factory tour (and if you hail from New Delhi go to the Firozabad Glass Factory if you are keen). I would rather recommend...stay with your wife that day! Even South tour shopping is useless, you get expensive stuff as they are places like Cottage Emporium. For value shopping go to the HYPER MARKETS.

The Last word …. enjoy every moment and live your vacation ... a honeymoon comes only once!
