 Interview with Wedding Photographers >>

Andrew Adams, the photographer
Andrew Adams is a Toronto-based International Wedding Photographer. In 2006, The National Post named Andrew as one of Canada 's top wedding photographers. In 2007 Andrew won a national wedding photography contest called 'the Captured moment'. In his spare time Andrew loves to travel and document life in places off the beaten path.

What cities do you cover?
Anywhere! Next to my passion for photography, travel is second! Though I'm based in Toronto , I have recently shot weddings in the Caribbean, Palm Beach , Florida , and India.

Your Photography Style

I would describe myself as a "visual storyteller", sharing images that are meaningful and beautiful. I try to evoke the true essence of the day with a keen sensitivity to the tacit interaction between a bride and groom and their families. I do this by being a quiet observer, always aware what is taking place around me and always prepared for those unexpected, natural moments that are typically the best images of the day.

Having a relaxed, friendly demeanor also comes in handy and helps put my clients at ease when they are in front of my camera.

Your choice of camera/ lens
I use Canon Digital SLR cameras and an assortment of Canon lenses; all professional grade equipment with sufficient back up camera bodies and lenses.

Black & white Vs. Color photography - your thoughts
Black and white is often preferred for the Candid moments, as it helps bring out the true emotional essence of the scene.

Color is preferred to highlight beautiful details of the wedding, the flowers, decor, fashion and for family and bridal portraits. Because I shoot digital, all images are shot in color giving my clients the option to have any image I take processed as color or Black and White.

Indian wedding photos suffer from excessive use of flash - what's your take?
I've always preferred using natural light, either from a nearby window, or the soft beautiful light of an overcast day is also ideal. For darker situations we use bounced, soft flash when required which allows for the natural ambience of the room, candles, etc. to enhance the image.

Post processing and Album design
For me the creative process is not over when I put away my camera at the end of the day. It has just begun! Images are first retouched and artistically enhanced to bring out their best qualities. They are then preserved in beautiful fine art albums made with custom layouts and binding. I use fine leathers, silks and archival papers, and work closely with my couples to create albums that reflect their individual style and personality. I have even taken leftover silk from a bride's wedding sari to create a personalised album cover. My overall style is high on creativity but straightforward in my approach to developing wedding albums, and I am more than happy to share my philosophy on creating these unique heirlooms. Albums should tell the complete story of the wedding day and include the important moments that take place on the sidelines. They should allow a person to live in the moment again and again. For the newlyweds, these albums should also let them see their special day in a different light and discover the things they may have missed in the chaos of the day's events.

Your favourite wedding photos
South Asian Weddings have always been my favorite to photograph, as they are marked throughout with emotional moments, beautiful customs and vibrant colors. It is these wonderful, heartfelt moments, which belies my passion for photography.

A wedding photography experience that you wont forget

I was at the Dominican Republic and sitting in the brides room photographing the preparations, within minutes before their beach ceremony was to begin. A major hurricane was getting very close to the island and the poor bride was terribly nervous. Luckily we were able to go on with the ceremony on the beach as planned, and the hurricane passed us by. Right after the Ceremony, the clouds parted, the newlywed couple were able to have their first dance with a sunset on the beach which was followed by a beautiful Rainbow! Who could ask for more?

Advice for to-be-wed couples on how to contribute to getting beautiful photos.
Don't stress about the minor details on your wedding day! Enjoy the day as it goes so quickly, if you follow this simple advice, and hire a photographer whose work you LOVE.
