What's a
wedding without the web? Some years ago this remark would have sounded funny but ask
thousands of engaged couples who are getting married this year and the general refrain
will be "the web's made everything so easy, wonder what we'd have done without
it."
Jewellery designer Kriti Soni had a
much-talked-about wedding celebration at the Taj Hotel, Mumbai in December 2002. Says
Kriti on the enormous use of her wedding website: "Friends and well-wishers who were
unable to attend the functions got a glimpse of all the festivities and celebrations and
we didn't have to go through the inconvenience of couriering pictures or showing bulky
photo albums." Kriti and her businessman husband Suhail Bhatia continue to use their
wedding website for sharing wedding pictures. "A lot of my to-be-wed friends need
references on "a wedding day look for a bride" so I keep forwarding my website
link to many of them."
WeddingSutra helps hundreds of
couples from India and abroad build their wedding websites. One of WeddingSutra's recent
celeb clients was doctor turned actor Anuj Saxena.
Says Anuj Saxena: "WeddingSutra's design team did an excellent job design job and the
wedding photographs looked terrific on the site. Also, my fans around the world (who have
created a group on yahoogroups) were very happy to read all the details on the functions
and take a dekko at many wedding photographs."
Saving Monies
Says Parthip Thyagarajan
who used his website as an online invite: "I only printed a few invitation cards for
distributing to those guests who were not on email. The majority were extended an
invitation through an email with a personal message, and a link to the website which had
all the wedding program details. And none complained about receiving only an online invite
and not a print invite. The website was an interesting communication for all and an
invitation with a difference." Adds Rick Bajaj: "The website is an economically
sound investment as we are reducing the cost of sending RSVP envelopes with
self-addressed- stamped- envelopes by having our guests RSVP online."
Preserving Memories
Says Parthip Thyagarajan: "The emails we received from friends who visited the
website, are one of the best wedding memories. All our friends were absolutely delighted
to look at the online wedding album, and the one's who could not attend the wedding were
happy to savour the moments thanks to the permanent, almanac-free cyber-muhurtam." |
