Rupa and Himanshu

Visited: Agra, Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar and Ranakpur

Stayed at: Shikarbadi hotel in Udaipur, Pal Haveli in Jaipur, Hotel Rang Mahal in Jaisalmer

Given all the choices on earth we opted to go to India for our honeymoon. We started out visiting both our families and grandparents and then we went to Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar and Ranakpur in Rajasthan as well as Agra for 10 days.

All through our trip we stayed at ancestral Royal properties which have been converted into hotels.

Our recommendations
I highly recommend taking the side trip to visit the Jain temples at Ranakpur. They were absolutely breathtaking and the atmosphere was very serene and peaceful.

We loved the experience of the traditional village at Chokidhani in Jaipur, the camel rides in the sand dunes in Jaisalmer and all the Royal Palaces in Udaipur. I waited my whole life to see the Taj Mahal and I recommend everyone to see it at least once in their lifetime. It was a phenomenal experience.

Must-avoids
Honestly, I would avoid Pushkar which doesn’t have much going on unless you are there for the Pushkar mela.

My advice to other couples
I would strongly suggest hiring a luxury car with a driver for the trip instead of going thru a package deal that would lump you along with other people-- like Palace on Wheels.

Seeing Rajasthan by road on our own terms, in privacy and stopping anywhere we wanted whenever we wanted was quite a treat. We kept running into the Palace on Wheels group in different cities and it’s definitely a very “herd” and regimented environment. It’s great for families traveling with kids, but not so great for honeymooning couples seeking some time with each other.
