Funky and Elegant
Deepti Dadlani runs Clover Communications, a Mumbai based Public
Relations firm. She married Ashish Chhabria who is in the Real Estate
Business. Deepti’s wedding functions included a Mehendi, the Pheras at
the Jalaram Hall, Juhu and a Reception at the Grand Imperial Banquets
in Four Bunglows.
In Search of the Perfect Dress
For the Mehendi, Deepti wore a self-designed outfit—a silk toga with a
green bandhini border. For the Wedding and Reception outfits, Deepti
spend several months in search of the perfect dress. She explains: “I
visited almost every high profile designer store in Mumbai. But most
didn’t have want I wanted—affordable elegance. I didn’t want to spend
an astronomical sum on a lehenga, and I wanted something light, so I
could wear it later.”
Her search ended with designer Tamanna Punjabi Kapoor who runs a
boutique in Bandra (West). Says Deepti: “Tamanna gives a lot of
personal attention to clients. I spent close to 72 hours over many
days—for the brief, sketches, samples and trials. I also felt her
pricing is reasonable.”
Mumtaz-inspired look for Pheras
For the pheras Deepti opted for a classic 70’s style look—inspired by
actress Mumtaz. A hot pink saree and a gold blouse both with resham
work, and a green and white pearl kamarbandh and pink chunri. This she
teamed with a Jadau jewellery set from Jaipur Gems, Hughes Road.
Funky and elegant look for Reception
Deepti tells us more about her Reception dress. “Since I wanted a
young, vibrant and funky look, Tamanna created a lehenga with a hot
pink and purple Benarasi georgette material. She infused it with
different borders and played around with different embroideries and
fabrics. Since Deepti loves velvet, it was the predominant fabric,
besides raw silk, tussar silk and gota work. Bianca did her makeup and
gave her a Jodhaa Akbar inspired hairstyle. Her jewellery was a gold
choker from Tanishq.
Deepti’s Tips for Brides
- Finalise your budget depending on what you’d like to spend—not what
the designer or others suggest.
- For facials use home-made products, drink a lot of water, eat a lot fruits
- Go for a walk as often as you can
- Don’t take too much advice
- It’s natural to be nervous, but don’t get stressed
- My list of must-visit places for brides-to-be in Mumbai. Aza,
Altamount Road for their variety of styles, Melange for their
beautiful sarees and Sabyasachi’s store in Kala Ghoda, it just feels
so good to go there. Jade Peddar Road for Indo-Westerns and Indian and
D7 in Khar for the variety of designers whose creations you can view
there-- Ranna Gill bags, Pankaj and Nidhi Kapur’s Indian wear, Namrata
Joshipura’s sequenced western wear.
