A Day with WeddingSutra Favorites: Hemali and Luv

WeddingSutra has launched a brand new initiative to help to-be-weds with their wedding planning:  ‘A day with WeddingSutra Favorites’. As part of this initiative, we curate a customized program for a selected WeddingSutra reader where we arrange for visits to some of our favourite wedding specialists and new salons/ stores. In the second post of this series, we feature fashion and advertising photographer Luv Israni and his fiance Hemali Turakhia.

Hemali and Luv

Says Luv, “I have been clicking for 10 years now, but my love story clicked on 22 January 2014 when I met Hemali at a close friend’s wedding. And how can I forget that life-changing moment. She looked like a doll dressed in white and we spent more than an hour together. For me that was enough to know she is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. We are from very different cultures, I am a Sindhi and she is a Gujarati. I have always worked in fashion/ advertising while she has worked in the IT/ corporate sector, I think our personalities are very different but as is often said ‘opposites attract’. And now we can’t wait for our ‘forever’!”

Stop 1: Chintamanis Jewellers
Hemali’s Review: With lots of designs and a huge collection of gold, diamond and platinum jewellery, this landmark store opposite Siddhivinayak Temple, Dadar has quite a buzz and energy around it. Their staff showed us some ornate bridal pieces and later some delicate designs from the newly launched platinum ‘EVARA’ collection for men and groom! EVARA pieces are very light, versatile and can be worn with both traditional and modern ensembles for different occasions.

Prices: Rs 1,25,000 onward (EVARA  chains, bracelets and bangles) and Rs 4,00,000 onward (EVARA necklace/ earrings set)

Stop 2: SVA by Sonam and Paras Modi
Luv’s Review: The SVA store located right opposite Palladium stocks both men’s and women’s wear and they have a good collection for brides and grooms; unlike many designer stores which specialise in bridals only. Since Hemali has already visited several bridal wear stores, we spent time checking out options for me at SVA. Grooms who love bright colours should visit SVA and their price points are reasonably good (if compared with typical designer price tags). I tried three pieces and loved the fit and cut of all and I plan to come back soon to order a dress for one of functions.

Prices: Rs 35,000 onward for sherwanis and grooms wear. Shirts and other wear are priced Rs 3,000 onward*

Stop 3: La Folie Patisserie
Luv and Hemali’s Review: We have visited La Folie at Kala Ghoda but this was our first visit to their new branch at Palladium. At La Folie you can view the most amazingly well-presented desserts and indulge yourself with the richest flavors of pastries, macaroons, truffles and tarts. Packed and presented fabulously, and made with a lot of care of love, they make for the best gift for your loved ones.

Prices: Rs. 250 onwards*

Stop 4: Shangri La Hotels & Resorts
Luv and Hemali’s Review:  In the one hour meeting with Gaurav Arora of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, we got to know about the finest Shangri-La properties and the best honeymoon destinations around the world. What really got our attention was that part of his presentation which talked about the hotel with the best view of the Eiffel Tower- the Shangri-La Paris. What seemed truly irresistible was their glamorous duplex terrace suite offering stunning views of the Eiffel Tower and River Seine. Since we are considering Istanbul for our honeymoon, we spent time getting to know about Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, that has exquisite views of the city and the Bosphorus Strait. Gaurav also showed us photos of their fabulous Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa located in Oman’s capital Muscat; it is the new international hot-spot for destination weddings, and a quiet honeymoon getaway for those looking for a short holiday close to home.

Stop 5: Customizing Creativity
Hemali’s Review: Customizing Creativity is run by husband-wife duo Disha and Harsh Munshaw. Nowadays when more to-be-weds are opting for e-invites only, Customizing Creativity offer light and elegantly designed invites in a contemporary Indian style which are a departure from stiff paper cards or very traditional invites.

Prices: Between Rs 200 and Rs 400 per invite*

Stop 6: TUMI Luxury Baggage
Luv and Hemali’s Review: At TUMI we got to see a nice collection of luxury and lifestyle accessories. It was interesting to learn that they offer customization services- where you can personalize parts of your TUMI luggage, like the zipper pullers, bag hook, pouch, luggage tag and more.

Prices: Cabin bags Rs 40,000 onward, large suitcases Rs 80,000 onward*

Stop 7: The Spa at Palladium Hotel
Hemali’s Review: After a long and tiring day what can be a better treat that a spa treatment. We spent some time at The Spa located at Palladium Hotel and their treatment made me feel fresh, relaxed and rejuvenated! The good thing about this idyllic haven is that they have 30-minute treatments for those who are pressed for time and who want to stay in their work clothes. I will need lot of relaxation in the weeks before the big day so I will come here for the 30-minute stress busters every time I am around Lower Parel.

Prices: Rs. 2,500 onward*
