Elizabeth Taylor’s legendary jewellery collection fetched more than £74million as it went under the hammer at Christie’s Auction House a few months back– smashing the previous world record for the most valuable private collection of jewels sold at an auction. Widely celebrated as one of the greatest private collections ever assembled, this dazzling array of jewels includes Elizabeth Taylor’s most iconic diamonds, gemstones, historic jewels, and one-of-a-kind creations, as well as a treasure trove of personal mementos and beloved gifts. She collected the best pieces from the best periods, and as a result her collection boasts exquisite examples from the most celebrated of jewellery designers, including BVLGARI, Boucheron, Cartier, JAR, Schlumberger, Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others.

The spectacular necklace with largest pear-shaped White Nacreous Pearl ‘La Peregrina’ was sold for $11.8 million. The giant natural pearl belonged to eight generations of Spanish kings between 1582 and 1808. Elizabeth Taylor received it as a Valentine’s Day gift from Richard Burton in 1969. Inspired by a 16th century portrait of Mary Queen of Scots, Taylor commissioned Cartier to design a new mount of matched natural Pearls and Rubies. It was designed by Taylor with Al Durante of Cartier to offset La Peregrina.
An emerald and diamond necklace by Bulgari. It was Elizabeth Taylor’s wedding gift from the first wedding to her husband Richard Burton in 1964.
A Suite of Ruby and Diamond Jewellery, by Cartier that her husband Mike Todd bought while she was taking a swim.
This antique diamond tiara, circa 1880, is mounted in platinum and gold and was given to her by her third husband Mike Todd in 1957. He said to her, “You’re my queen, and I think you should have a tiara”.
‘The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond’ a 33-carat rectangular-cut diamond ring from harry Winston that was a gift from her husband Richard Burton. She wore it nearly every day and in every film since she received it.
A blue Burmese sapphire and diamond necklace by Bulgari weighing 52.72 carats. Made in 1969, the octagonal pendant can also be worn as a brooch.
A Van Cleef & Arpels daisy brooch, clip earrings and necklace in diamonds, colored diamonds and chrysoprase that she borrowed from Van Cleef & Arpels to go with her yellow Valentino dress. After the evening, Elizabeth Taylor decided it was her good-luck necklace and bought it.
A Ruby and Diamond Ring, of 8.24 carats By Van Cleef & Arpels Gift that Liz received from Richard Burton for Christmas. Early in their marriage, Richard Burton promised Elizabeth Taylor he would buy her a special ruby, with a perfect red color.
To mark the birth of her first grandchild in 1971 at the age of 39, Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor Gold and Diamond Drop Marquis Cluster earrings from Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.
