A whimsical bridal shoot against the snowy vistas of Kashmir that was straight out of a fairytale!

Emperor Jahangir once famously said this about Kashmir, “If there is a heaven on Earth, it is here, it is here, it is here”, and we can’t help but agree! Going back to where it all started, Sonal Vartak honored her journey of love with Nikhil Borkar in a mesmerizing post-wedding bridal shoot against the snow-laden beauty of Kashmir. Shot by WeddingSutra Favorite – Knotty Affair by Namit & Vipul, these breathtaking shots will surely have you dreaming of your own bridal shoot!

Sonal tells us about the inspiration behind it all. “So much can happen in just a year! 2021 for me started off pretty much like everyone else, desperately wishing for the chance to travel after the unfortunate year that everyone had endured, so when a friend of mine encouraged me to tag along with him to Kashmir, it was a no-brainer! With things being so last minute, I had no plans of where to stay, so my friend arranged for me to stay at another friend’s place. I was excited for my visit yet hesitant about staying at a stranger’s home when I was introduced to Nikhil, an IPS officer in Kashmir. Little did I know then, that he would become my husband in less than a year!”

She continues, “We had a very short engagement, with no opportunity of a pre-wedding photoshoot before our wedding in Mumbai in December 2021, so the idea of doing a post-wedding photoshoot in Kashmir called out to me deeply. The fact that it was where our entire journey of love unfolded, made it all the more fitting and special. With the help of my close friend Namit of Knotty Affairs by Namit & Vipul, we planned a unique solo bridal shoot against the snowy backdrop of Kashmir.”

Sonal chose a variety of spots in Kashmir for the shoot. While some, like the Dal Lake, were iconic in their beauty and striking to say the least, most of the others were hidden gems away from the bustle of travelers which she had unearthed during her visits to Kashmir. She shares, “The shots of the bridge were especially precious, as it marked the spot where I had proposed to Nikhil. Many other locations also held great personal significance to me, so shooting there allowed me to truly preserve all those special memories.”

Honoring her Christian and Hindu roots as she had done in her wedding, Sonal posed for the shoot in both her red wedding lehenga and white reception gown, both of which looked magical against the pristine white facade of the shots. Recalling her most memorable moments, she shares, “We went to Sonmarg to get some shots in the White Christian wedding gown, but unfortunately we had to endure extreme winds and knee-deep snow. Regardless, we found a location near a river where we shot on a dais amidst the snow.

The windy weather and snowfall made it extremely challenging, as the photographers were struggling with their equipment in the cold and I was practically soaked to the skin. We could barely manage to shoot for a few minutes. However, the team of Knotty Affair was incredibly professional and they still managed to get stunning shots, which ended up being some of my most favorite from the entire shoot. They captured a range of candid shot interspersed with our natural emotions while making the entire experience simply unforgettable for me, and I would highly recommend them to everyone!”
