Abhimanyu and Ananya’s Engagement Seems Straight Right Out Of A Movie

Abhimanyu is an urban architect and Ananya is a graphic designer. Once you know the design-savvy couple planned their own engagement, down to the details, you can imagine how personalized the celebrations were. Check the details of this joyous occasion captured by WeddingSutra Favourite – Framed by RG below.

True to tradition, with a few Athenian accents, Abhimanyu and Ananya chose well when they picked the palatial Rajbari Bawali, Kolkata, to host their engagement. The extraordinary building was built 250 years ago and depicts nearly two centuries of fine living and grand hospitality.

Engagement Planning

With their design backgrounds, Abhimanyu and Ananya had pretty firm ideas about what they wanted to incorporate in their engagement. When those firm ideas didn’t exactly coincide, there was a massive argument and Abhimanyu stormed off. However, better sense (and love?) prevailed and the two met on the same design page and managed the perfect combination of both their visions.

Engagement

This was to be an extremely intimate affair – only 60 guests were privileged to attend.

The first day saw the festivities open with a royal dinner set up in the Rajbari courtyard. Echoing times past, the gorgeous space was further enhanced by the Bengali culture on display via attire (in stunning hues of red, white and orange) and the cuisine. The heritage interiors were enhanced with elegant detailing, long dinner tables adorned with posies of green and white while soft, subtle lighting highlighted architectural accents. A subtle splash of opulence was granted via golden Chiavari chairs. Place names printed on the beautifully wrapped menu atop spotless silverware, adding a personalized touch. After dinner, family members took turns performing around a flaming bonfire as gorgeous music set spirits soaring.

Ananya wore an Anand Kabra creation while Abhimanyu chose Rohit Bal as his designer du jour. The couple wore Jamewar shawls that are family heirlooms.

On the second day, the chill in the air filled the preparations for the engagement with a thrill. Having eschewed the constraints of a theme, the open lawn was decked with spools of colorful thread and white blooms hanging from the trees and white flowers dangling from them. A mix of handcrafted shola and jute elements also festooned the area. Abhimanyu looked suave in a Manish Malhotra outfit while Ananya’s half-saree teamed with kundan jewellery fit perfectly into the opulent settings.

Ananya and Abhimanyu were met with varied emotions as they exchanged rings. The engagement was followed by another entertaining moment, where Abhimanyu surprised Ananya with a flash mob. The groom-to-be danced alongside 30 of his near and dear ones to Bollywood numbers serenading his bride-to-be.

With that, the dance floor was opened up to the rest of the guests and as music filled the air, the engagement smoothly transitioned into a cocktail party with much revelry into the wee hours.
