Actress Bhagyashree and Women Achievers on Mumbai’s Best Festive Shopping Destination

Every year, the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) Ladies’ Wing exhibition in Mumbai is the most-awaited Exhibition for the swish-set. And it figures in the annual calendar for women from other cities too. The well-heeled from Ahmedabad, Pune and Baroda fly in to Mumbai only to have a dekko at the creations showcased at ‘WE’ (Woman Entrepreneurship) the IMC Ladies Wing exhibition. The festive season exhibition, now in its 20th year, is being held at the World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade on October 14, 15th. We spoke to some IMC office bearers and exhibitors to find out why ‘WE’ scores over other Exhibitions?

Dr Smita Dandekar, President Ladies Wing Indian Merchant: With money-power you can set-up up a chain of stores, or start an exhibition brand, but you’ll end up retailing what many others retail; our exhibition is different, because only the highly talented are selected through a rigorous selection process.

Bhagyashree Dassani, Former Actress turned Designer: The beauty of exhibitions like ‘WE’ is that the exhibitors are from many cities- Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Chennai. It’s always nicer to see creations of varied styles, different inspirations under one roof. I’ve just made a foray into design and am exhibiting for the first time to showcase my range of Cocktail Sarees.

Jyoti Doshi, Chairperson, IMC Ladies Wing Exhibition Committee: The selectors who screen the potential exhibitors are highly accomplished women from diverse backgrounds; so the final showcase is a range to appeal to women of different ages, style interests.

Anju Sethi, Jewellery Designer: WE showcases new ideas and fresh talent; for the visitors it is a highly inspiring experience because they get to see unique creations only.
