Couples who shoot together- meet the Husband & Wife Photographer Teams

Canvera top

WeddingSutra features couples who click at weddings together, and who share a common passion for meeting people and travelling to new places.

Arjun and Praerna Kartha, New Delhi
Arjun and Praerna, both ex Advertising Professionals started shooting weddings for ‘fun’ after their own wedding in early 2010– when they discovered that wedding photography as it existed then was devoid of visual storytelling.  Their story, which was full of laughter, road trips together, beer and tabasco sauce was missing from their wedding album. “We were eager to create stories from Indian weddings, and were sure that we’d do a much better job than traditional photographers”, explains Arjun. “Not to forget our love for wedding food; so it all started as a ‘fun’ thing to do, and soon it was our new profession”.

Arjun and Praerna now shoot weddings with a full team customized to their client requirement; which can include second shooters for the extended family and group shots, cinematographers and directors who create wedding cinema. “After the wedding is over, is when our real work starts”, says Arjun. “Painstaking curation and post production. We’ve scoured the world for the very best printers, and recommend only the best for the final product: the wedding album.”

Dhaval and Medhavi Kotecha, Mumbai
Dhaval has been into Photography since 2010 and Medhavi joined him after their marriage in 2012. Says Dhaval: “Medhavi generally interacts with the couple and shoots the details and bridal portraits. I shoot with the wide angle lens and get a different perspective of the same moment.”

They operate under the name DKreate Photography and have captured different kind of weddings- big and grand home town weddings, and intimate destination weddings in Goa, Jaipur and even USA. Some of their high profile wedding clients include Bollywood actress Esha Deol, Fashion Designer Nachiket Barve and the Adhikari family (owners of Sab TV).

Shweta and Soumak, New Delhi
Shweta and Soumak were batch mates in engineering college. They got married a few years later and their common interest in photography motivated them to spend more time pursuing it. Says Soumak: “We started off by dabbling in Lifestyle Photography and later took on our first wedding assignment in 2011. After that there was no looking back.”Adds Shweta: “We have different styles of shooting, and I think that helps us capture the wedding story well. In terms of work assignments, we always look forward to different community weddings, meeting people in different cities, and in the last few years we’ve captured many NRI and cross-cultural weddings.”

Ashwin and Jhalak, Mumbai
A film school grad from Vancouver, Canada, Ashwin met Jhalak in 2007 at an Animation Institute in Delhi. “I was a Guest lecturer and Jhalak was a student there. We got married five years later in Jhalak’s hometown Meerut. Now we’re based in Mumbai and our company ‘Shades Photography’ specializes in Lifestyle and Wedding photography.”

“I think there are a lot of benefits of being a husband-wife team, the best being we get to spend a lot of time with each other” say Ashwin and Jhalak. And while they love documenting the festivities and the different functions, what they equally look forward to is the pre-wedding shoot. “It is when we try our best to motivate them to have fun; and it is our way of getting to know them better before the big day”, conclude the duo.

Jaspreet and Robin Saini, Pune
Robin was working as a DGM (Marketing) with a Media House when he started dabbling in Wedding Photography. When he decided to quit his full-time job to plunge into Wedding Photography, Jaspreet too decided to leave her job (she was a Designer at Raymond) and together they started their venture in wedding photography and cinematic film. Says Robin: “I take care of the business side and am the main shooter at weddings, usually concentrating on the bride, while Jaspreet focusses on the groom, and later on she is the one who works behind the scene to take charge of deadlines with editing + designing of albums.”
