I’m sure I’m not the only one who meticulously plans every detail of my look ahead of a big occasion or event. Which is why I love weddings! You get months to plan, shop and execute. And it gets even better if you’ve been chosen as a bridesmaid: the inner circle is privy to dates, themes and locations long before even the invitations have been designed.

The bride usually chooses a style or colour so there’s a common theme with her bridesmaid squad. But some of the finer details are left to enable your own individuality. Here are 5 looks inspired by Bollywood’s finest that will provide that je ne sais quoi to help you stand out without taking away any of the bride’s limelight.

Classic Bridesmaid Look
Draw the classic flicked eyeliner with black liquid eyeliner; stop halfway between the outer corner of the eye and the end of the eyebrow to get the perfect length for just the right amount of drama. Jacqueline has picked the perfect red but any bold colour will finish the look. (Read: how to pick the perfect lip colour for your skin tone.) Line the lips, pushing past the lipline only where necessary and fill in with lipliner before following with lipstick for colour that lasts. Matte foundation complements this classic best. Draw a matching bindi using a lip brush and the lipstick you’ve used.

Tong the hair section by section with a curling tong with a barrel size between 1/2”-1”. Sweep it all to one side and cross pin at the nape of the neck to hold it in place. Tong the section closest to your face away from the face, brush out once cooled and let it fall slightly onto the face before hair spraying it into place. This will create the illusion of a fringe similar to Jacqueline’s.

Jacquilene Fernandez

Fresh floral Bridesmaid Look
Begin by patting in a soft gold eyeshadow onto the eyelid up to the crease. Use a brown or gold a few shades darker on a fluffy brush to blend into the crease and create a natural contour. Add a slick of black eyeliner and coats of mascara for plenty of flutter factor. Keep the skin as dewy as possible with a radiant foundation and heaps of highlighter. Use a pretty pink gloss to complete the flirty look.

Curl the hair section by section into medium curls with a curling wand. Set apart the fringe and divide the remaining hair into 4 sections. Then twist each section onto itself until it curls into a small bun like shape before securing with grips. Arrange each small bun next to each other to create a larger bun shape made up of twists. Twist the fringe section loosely toward the face letting it sweep over one ear and grip into the bun to blend. Mist with hairspray to set.

Gauhar Khan

Girl on the go
Start nude with the most natural foundation, blush and lip colours. We need all focus on the pop of colour on the eye. Sweep blush over the entire eyelid and finish with a line of black kohl pencil along the lash line. Use an angle brush to create a slight flick with the kohl pencil on the outer corner to lift the eye. Pick an eye pencil that matches one of the brightest colours in your outfit and line your bottom lash line with it for the ultimate trendy finale.

Divide the hair into 2 sections on either side and twist a hair straightener through sections to create a very lose and un-uniform wave. Pay extra attention to the sections closest to the face, giving them a extra twist and so a fuller wave. Section the front of the hair by running a pin tail from the top of one ear to another and let the hair fall into the most natural side part. Brush the side with the least hair back and add some hairspray to tame flyways. Grip into place behind the ear. Hold the fuller section from where the parting is, twist away from the face and continue down the hairline. Tuck the remaining hair into the waves and grip into place behind the ear.

Sonam Kapoor

Boho Bridesmaid Look
This look is all about earthy monotones so the aim is to keep the colours as warm and natural as possible. Use a brown cream eyeshadow all over the eyelid and add lashings of mascara for extra definition. Use a warm bronzer in the hollow and blend into the apple of the cheek for a natural contour. Finish with a matte lipstick that is just a shade or two darker than your natural lip colour for the perfect pout.

Set the hair into a middle parting and split the hair on either side. Use a curling wand to curl the hair one section at a time. Alternate the direction of the curl for each section; one should be curled in the direction of the face and the next away from the face. Let the curls cool before brushing them out for super natural, boho chic waves. Using your thumbs, divide a section on each side that runs from the temple to the crown. Hold both sections together in the middle of the back of the head and grip in place.

Deepika Padukone

Sultry Bridesmaid Look
Use a black kohl pencil all over your eyelid, across the bottom lash line and in the waterline. Blend the edges of the kohl pencil into the crease and along the bottom lash line with a fluffy brush. Pat a matt black eyeshadow over the kohl pencil for added intensity and oomph! Multiple coats of mascara are needed to match the intensity of the eyeshadow and add further sultriness. Flawless skin is a must with an ultra soft contour in the hollows of the cheek using a sculpting powder. It’s all about the eyes here so nothing but a nude lip will do.

Use a pin tail to get the perfect middle parting and slick down the roots to mid lengths using a wet look gel. Tie the hair into a low ponytail and twist the pony until it turns onto itself into a bun. Use your fingers to spread the bun out a little into medium sized bun appropriate for the look and grip into place.

Neha Dhupia

Good luck with the looks and all the bridesmaids duties!
