Describing the brief she received from bride Radha, Hiral Shah, the mastermind behind Liberte by Hiral shares, “Radha was quite shy and conservative when it came to makeup and didn’t want to go overboard with her looks at all. Moreover, she has sensitive skin which fueled her apprehensions. To begin with, I had an in-depth discussion with Radha and her mom to understand what their vision was. Following this, we conducted a demo session where Radha insisted on just a layer of foundation for her look. But being a makeup artist and understanding how harsh the camera can be, I changed my strategy for her wedding day where I gave her a flawless face of makeup without caking it up and instead, kept the look to minimalistic.”

By carefully studying Radha’s skin and hair type, Liberte by Hiral created four different looks to highlight Radha’s natural beauty. Giving us a glimpse into her creative process, the challenges she faced, and the products she used, Hiral shares, “Although her skin was pretty clear, we had to be quite careful while doing her makeup since it could appear dull and oxidized after a couple of hours due to dehydration. She had also informed me previously that her skin was super sensitive. I made sure that all the products I picked were low on fragrance so as to not irritate her skin. My brushes are always meticulously cleaned before every use, and I took extra care before I used them on Radha.

Her skin type was oily, so we chose cruelty-free products that were suitable for her. To plump up her skin and avoid dehydration, I chose the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre moisturizer, Indulgeo Essentials Eyes on Duty under eye cream, and the Smashbox Photo Finish primer that helped in prepping her skin. We added BECCA Backlight Priming Filter that worked as a strobe cream to add that extra bit of glow underneath.

She has beautiful eyes and pretty cheekbones that lit up her face every time she smiled. Hence it was very important to create a good shape for her eyes to accentuate them and get those cheeks flushed and glowy. For the eyes I used the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette – Remastered eye shadow palette, Huda Beauty Obsessions palette in Amethyst, and Urban Decay Born to Run eyeshadow palette. For her cheeks, I chose a blush from Morphe and highlighted them with Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter. Radha has beautiful curly but fine hair, so setting it required extra care. We made sure that her hair looked voluminous and glossy with each hairstyle.”

By carefully understanding Radha’s perspective and developing a rapport with her, Hiral merged Radha’s style and her own. Hiral explains, “ Throughout the process, I made sure she felt comfortable and stress-free! She knew that I had understood her brief with complete clarity, and it felt great to know that she completely trusted me. Encouraged, I took her vision and amplified it by applying my techniques!”

Mehndi
“Radha chose a fun green and pink lehenga for this event and to compliment her outfit, I decided to add a pop of color in the form of a green eyeliner into her makeup look. For the rest of her face, we chose to keep it minimal as she needed to be comfortable while applying mehndi. Additionally, we also decided to tie up her hair in a fishtail braid and adorned it with baby’s breath so that it would cause her no trouble during the ceremony.”

Sangeet
“Sangeet was a glitzy event and Radha decided to sport a red gown for this occasion. Since her outfit was a bold hue, we decided to do a versatile silver-grey smokey eye on her. Her hair was fashioned into a ‘half-up’ style as she had multiple dance performances on her checklist that day.”

Wedding
“The quintessential Indian bride, Radha wore a stunning red saree with gold jewelry on her big day. For her makeup, I went for a soft gold eye look with thin eyeliner and some fluttery lashes. Initially, both of us were keen on a nude lip but once the whole look was complete, we realized that a red pout was a better call. Once the red lipstick was applied, everything just fell into place. Radha wanted a bridal hair bun with real flowers, so we adorned her hair with gajras and a red carnation in the center.”

Reception
“An event with a contemporary look and feel, the reception was high on glitz. Radha had chosen a nude peach gown for the evening which I felt needed a pop of color. So I gave her purple smokey eyes with a soft shimmer in it, and for her hair, we let full-blown curls cascade down her shoulders.”
