In the heart of Abu Dhabi’s architectural marvel at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, US-based couple Sonya and Shreyans curated a wedding experience that was equal parts timeless and modern, with every detail seamlessly orchestrated by luxury wedding curators FB Celebrations. Farid Khan and Bhavnesh Sawhney from FB Celebrations share, “From the first conversation, it was clear that Sonya and Shreyans wanted their wedding to be more than just a series of events—they envisioned a journey,” shares Bhavnesh Sawhney. “Our goal was to weave their personalities into every moment, creating an experience that would stay etched in their hearts forever.”
Wedding Functions
Welcome Dinner
The festivities commenced with a Welcome Dinner that set the tone for the days ahead—a spellbinding union of gourmet cuisine and immersive performance. A fire dancer ignited the evening with her graceful movements, casting flickering shadows that danced across the venue. She was followed by a belly dancer whose hypnotic performance seamlessly blended with the ambient rhythms of the night.
However, the crescendo of the evening came in the form of a jugalbandi that married classical Indian tradition with contemporary sound—a soulful Kathak performance met its match in a DJ with his cutting-edge beats. As Farid Khan of FB Celebrations explains, “We wanted the welcome night to be a sensory overture—something that introduced guests to the grand story unfolding. This fusion of tradition and innovation embodied exactly that.”
Mehndi Pool Party
The next day, guests were transported to a vibrant Mehendi Pool Party, a riot of pinks and oranges splashed across the venue. Laughter echoed as the emcee took the mic, and the water drummer elevated the celebration with a percussive water performance unlike anything the guests had ever seen. True to their spirited personalities, Sonya and Shreyans made a memorable entrance on a vintage Vespa, winning hearts as they kicked off the festivities. “This event was about pure fun, energy, and showcasing the couple’s dynamic side,” said Bhavnesh. “Every element was tailored to reflect their love for music, colour, and movement.”
Sangeet
The Sangeet was designed as a journey through time and style, thoughtfully curated across three distinct zones:
– Zone 1 evoked the charm of the Frank Sinatra era, with 1970s jazz and champagne-laced nostalgia welcoming guests in a cocoon of elegance.
– Zone 2 burst into colour with a Coachella-inspired beachfront vibe, where EDM and Bollywood merged into a kinetic celebration of rhythm and dance.
– Zone 3 took guests into the couple’s world through an awe-inspiring mapping projection on “Medusa”, blending storytelling with digital art and music to narrate Sonya and Shreyans’ love story.
“We didn’t want this to be just a sangeet—it had to be a transformative experience,” explains Farid. “Each zone had its soul, yet all three came together in harmony to reflect the couple’s journey.”
Wedding
The final day unfolded with grandeur at its peak. The Emirates Palace, with its regal arches and golden hues, served as the perfect setting for the main ceremony. At the centre stood a dome adorned with intricate mirror work, a tribute to Indian artistry brought to life with contemporary finesse.
The wedding was rich with emotion – Sonya’s graceful walk with her father and Shreyans’ regal entry flanked by his parents. The night culminated in a spectacular fireworks display, casting glitter across the sky and sealing the wedding in a blaze of unforgettable beauty. “This was a celebration of cultures, memories, and identities,” reflects Bhavnesh. “Our role was to choreograph these elements into a harmonious visual symphony.”
