Happy Flashbacks shares evocative photos capturing intimate emotions of this home wedding

Among the many things we have come to value in the past few months is the joy of spending time with our loved ones and the importance of little things. That is especially true when it comes to weddings as many couples are replacing grand plans with smaller events with just their immediate loved ones in attendance. Check out how Shivani and Gaurav’s cozy home wedding was captured safely and successfully by WeddingSutra Favorite – Happy Flashbacks. The team shared their shooting experience during a pandemic and handy tips for other wedding photographers.

Wedding shoot during pandemic

What does it take to shoot in the time of a pandemic?

“For starters, it’s asking the couple and their family to say cheese but from a distance! Shooting in the time of a pandemic requires being sensible, alert and aware of all safety protocols. It’s important to be well informed about the couple, their families, the number of guests coming for the ceremony and the location, exact area/venues of the festivities in the house, and more. Health measures need to be followed stringently to ensure your own safety, as well as that of your clients. Please make sure that you are as important as the ceremony that you are documenting.”

How has your style of working changed due to the current scenario?

“The core style of our work and our team, of course, remains the same. Storytelling is what we focus on, irrespective of the current or any future scenario. The only significant change is in the number of team members covering the wedding in order to keep the essential personnel to the bare minimum for safety. A simple home wedding or an intimate celebration does not require the usual team size. Additionally, all our members are well versed with both filming and photography, which makes it easier for us and the couple.”

How did you manage social distancing at Shivani and Gaurav’s wedding? What measures did you take to ensure safety while working?

“Shivani and Gaurav’s home wedding was an extremely intimate affair with just their immediate family members present. We preemptively ensured clear communication with them regarding all measures that needed to be taken. We assured them of the health of all our team members, and they in turn did the same for everyone who would be present, including their home staff. The ceremony was held in a room that was very spacious and well-ventilated with ample sunlight, and we all used masks and sanitizers constantly.”

Any tips for photographers about etiquette, safety, and hygiene?

“It is important for photographers to have a clear understanding of the ceremony in terms of what exactly the couple plans for the day, where the rituals would be taking place, the number of people that will be present, and so on. Clarify the health conditions of everyone attending, as well as your own team for open and transparent communication. During the shoot, wear surgical masks as they are light and breathable, and are comfortable for several hours. Carry hand sanitizers and your own water bottle and food (if possible). Avoid touching objects during the shoot as much as possible and try maintaining as much distance as possible. Shoot in a relaxed frame of mind, and keep your movements steady and limited. Less equipment and the right lenses are great ways to ensure safety and less hassle. And most importantly, stay relaxed as undue stress will affect the quality of your work.”

Since intimate weddings with social distancing might get stressful, how do you capture a couple’s best moments and emotions? What do you focus on?

“Held in comfortable, familiar settings with your closest relatives, intimate weddings are a lot less stressful than big weddings and are equally meaningful, if not more. It makes it easier for storytellers like us to capture what we truly want to focus on, which is the couple’s story of love. Without the stress of arrangements, guests, decor, food and a thousand other things, one can truly focus on the little things. We, as filmmakers, focus on the intricate emotions and candid moments that truly bring out the real essence of the day. After all, whether it’s an intimate home wedding or a grand destination one, the story is what needs to be woven. We are in a business of preserving memories and we do not take it for granted a bit.”

Any special moments you would like to mention from Shivani & Gaurav’s home wedding?

“The most beautiful aspect of Shivani and Gaurav’s nuptials was that it only had immediate family members present. The ceremonies were brief but every moment was savored by the couple and their families. Shivani’s mother expressed that they were truly happy about the way things turned out, as they were able to focus on the right things. There was no stress about anything and for us, it just felt like ‘Home.'”
