Our Favorite Décor Inspiration from Real Weddings in Oman

Here are some of the most spectacular wedding décor and details from lavish Indian weddings celebrated in the beautiful Sultanate of Oman.

A daydream in coral, an evening in carmine
Sasha Rawal , sister of leading Bollywood fashion designer Kunal Rawal, tied the knot with Samarth Bajaj, scion of a prominent Hyderabadi business family at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, Sultanate of Oman. The #SashSam wedding exuded playful sophistication and breathtaking grandeur from word go. The Mehndi, bathed in the soft light of day, was held at the beachside lawns of the Al-Bandar Shangri-La. As the russet mountains, white sands and blue waters created a stunning background, the lawns wore delicate coral drapes and center piece in the palest of teal. That evening, the grand engagement and sangeet ceremony was hosted in the ballroom at Al-Bandar Shangri-La. The theme color that evening was deep carmine, perfectly offset by centerpieces crafted out of luxurious, large white feathers.

Salmon pink in the sunlight, ochre, and gold at dusk
Aditi and Jash’s wedding came to life in the sprawling resort of the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in Muscat, in the Sultanate of Oman. The three hotels within the resort have the capacity and grandeur to accommodate all the people, parties, and poses that make up a modern Indian wedding today. The décor was a masterclass in elegant simplicity – a minimalist mandap decorated in soft white drapes, fresh yellow daisies, and foliage, the set up featured seating areas in salmon pink while the rows of chairs facing the mandap were beautifully decorated in swathes of ochre and gold. Against the crystal-clear blue waters of the Sea of Oman, rocky formations rising out of the sea and a crimson sky at sunset, the breathtaking pictures tell the best story.

A beachy glow by day, glamor and glitz by night
Nazuk and Vaibhav said ‘I Do’ at the Ritz Carlton Al Bustan Palace – a truly magical setting for a beach wedding overlooking the Gulf of Oman. The Youngsters’ Party was held by day in the shade of swaying palms, rustic cabanas, and a lazily chilled wine as vintage lampshades swung gently in the ocean breeze at The Beach Pavilion at Al Bustan Palace. The wedding ceremony by night featured a circular mandap as the center of attention. Open to the night sky, fringed with garlands of red roses in full bloom, surrounded by pillars draped in lustrous pearl white fabric, the mandap seemed to glow with an ethereal energy – illuminated by a chandelier suspended above it. The entire setup grew more splendid in the deepening twilight and reflected in the gentle ripples of the waters of the pool.

King and Queen of the Castle
The Shangri-La Hotel renamed their luxurious Muscat property ‘The Virani Castle’ for the mega wedding of Smit Virani to Chandni Amin. The daytime celebrations were a riot of color by the poolside. Taking inspiration from the hues of dappled sunlight, guests were handed colorful t-shirts, bandanas, sarongs and floral garlands to add to the festive riot of color. For the ring ceremony held in the hotel’s ballroom, the décor was lit to evoke visions of a magical dreamscape: a vision in white with pink spotlights playing on crystal and mirror embellishments on the walls of the ballroom.

A Bollywood evening was as glitzy as expected. Held at the Amphitheatre, the excitement was enhanced with digitized glitz like lasers, graphics and LED screens. At the main wedding ceremony, there was no veering away from the magnificence of traditional Indian wedding hues – red and gold. Guests were lead to the mandap under canopies festooned with opulent elephant chandeliers, heavily woven with fresh flowers. The dais was inspired by temple architecture – beautiful carvings and a palatial dome overhead. The mandap, set up in the Dhow Area, was decorated with umbrellas and overlooked the stunning Turtle Beach. The highlight of the evening was the Jaimala (exchanging of garlands between the bride and groom), which was initiated by four white ‘angels’ descending from above.

Poetry in pink and purple
Reia and Garrie decided to get married at the Al Bustan Palace where Garrie proposed in Reia’s home city, Muscat. The décor was personalized by the bride and her close friends. Since the bridesmaids wore three different shades of pink and purple, the entire wedding fell in with the color scheme. Purple, associated with nobility, wisdom, and grandeur, offsets the lighthearted pink, signifying love and romance and happiness. At the wedding, the flowers, centerpieces, lighting and favors were all in shades of those.
