Jinisha and Romil’s cinematic photoshoot in Ladakh

Fierce winds, free-spirited camels and fabulous backdrops made Romil and Jinisha’s pre-wedding shoot in Ladakh by Visual Crafters an unforgettable experience.

Ladakh is known for its abundant natural beauty – think clear lakes, mighty mountains, gushing rivers, stark stretches of land and even an expansive desert. That’s why Jinisha and Romil chose Ladakh as their pre-wedding photo shoot destination, and Saurabh Anjarlekar of Visual Crafters , who shot the striking photos, shares how everything unfolded in this heavenly paradise.

The first time Romil and Jinsha met Saurabh, they had not finalized any location for their pre-wedding photo shoot. However, soon after Saurabh planted the idea of a photoshoot at India’s Little Tibet, they were ready to pack their bags and leave for a photo session like no other.

“During my first meeting with the Jinisha and Romil, I realized that they had no particular place in mind for their shoot. Therefore, I took it upon myself to suggest a location that would never fail anyone shooting there because of the sheer splendor that it provides in each frame. Within a week, they had locked Ladakh as the location for their shoot,” shares Saurabh.

In three days, Saurabh and his team shot across nine locations and covered nine different looks right from ethnic Indian to glamorous Western. “Given the amount of time we had on our hands we narrowed down on three broad locations in Ladakh – Leh City, Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and a few remote villages around Nubra Valley for our shoot. Since we were also looking for some exclusive backdrops, we connected with a local team in Ladakh to help us scout for such places. They took about a month to identify all the correct locations, but the wait was worth it.”

Shooting on a hilly terrain is never easy. Altitude uneasiness, motion sickness, and fierce winds were just a few challenges that couple and the Visual Crafters team faced throughout their shoot in the land of high passes. However, their undaunted spirits resulted in a medley of memories, beautiful pictures and an unforgettable learning experience.

“At Nubra Valley, we decided to have two famous double-hump camels in a couple of our frames. Little did we know how challenging it would be to get them to move the way we wanted them to in order to stage the scenes the way we liked! It was like the camels had a mind of their own and they weren’t too keen on cooperating. Between battling the chilly desert winds and maneuvering the camels, we managed to a lot of laughs. That three-hour long shoot with them was a memorable one for all of us,” recalls Saurabh.

At Pangong Lake, besides capturing some stunning frames that looked like they were stills from a Yash Raj Film, they even threw in a shot of Jinisha riding a bike wearing ethnic clothes which drew its inspiration Kareena Kapoor’s closing scene in 3 Idiots. Saurabh explains, “ We planned to re-enact the iconic visual from the film. However, Jinisha had never ridden a scooter ever before in her life, and to take the difficulty level a notch higher, she had to do this wearing Indian clothes. After a few falls, we managed to get our fun shots without damaging the bike in the process!”

Saurabh also recalls the time when they had to shoot on another location where they had shot earlier with a herd of sheep. “We had visualized a shot of Jinisha and Romil walking with a herd of 100 to 150 pashmina sheep. The challenge in these shot was orchestrating a shot that didn’t show the chaos happening behind the scenes with all of them trying to run away in different directions. With the help of very cooperative shepherds we captured some happy, interactive moments of the couple and the animals without a single sheep running away,” he adds.

If you have seen the couple’s incredible pre-wedding pictures, you couldn’t have missed their stunning wardrobe. “Since we knew where we were going to be shooting, we started working on the different outfits which would make Romil and Jinisha look awesome much in advance. We were fortunate to have designers Neerusha Nikhat and Violet Dsouza who helped us with the styling of the couple for this shoot,” says Saurabh. “For this shoot, we went all out and left no stone unturned to get mind-blowing results. We believe when you work hard you create magic” he adds. After seeing these impressive pictures, we sure agree!
