Katy Perry’s Big Fat Jungle Wedding

Katy Perry and Brand Russell may have hosted a small wedding for around 50 guests only—but the Desi Style Hollywood Wedding had all the ingredients of a Big Fat Indian Wedding. The Times of India headline read “India emerges as Celeb Wedding Destination” while DNA quoted Raghuvendra Rathore who felt this wedding would change the dynamics of Ranthambore for the next few years: “A high net worth wedding is the best way to advertise travel and culture”, he said. HT talked about how the couple’s guests antagonised the media while many papers quoted environmentalists/ activists expressing their concern on the late night celebrations with crackers causing disturbance to the wildlife.

Here is more about the Katy-Russell nuptial knot and the much-in-the-news Aman-I-Khas.

– Katy and Brand stayed in a luxury tent at the Aman-I-Khas resort. The guests stayed at the nearby Vanyavilas run by The Oberoi group and Sher Bagh resorts a Relais and Chateaux-affiliated property owned by the Sujan Luxury Hotels. Every available room in Sawai Madhopur’s hotels and guesthouses were taken over by the international media.

– Due to the top secrecy factor the staff at Aman-I-Khas were instructed not to move out till the celebrations were over. The 5-day celebrations started with a Bollywood-style feast featuring snake charmers, fire jugglers, dancers to the accompaniment of Vedic chants and classical Indian music. .

– The wedding was conducted by a Hindu priest. The groom arrived in a buggy pulled by a white horse and he was escorted by Rajasthani dancers and elephant and camel riders.

– The mandap was erected in Aman-I-Khas’ central large pavilion tent, which was strung with orange, red and yello ribbons. The trees lining the path into the venue were lit up with white and gol lights and the venue was decorated with marigold garlands.

– Rihanna was Katy’s maid of honour. Indian supermodel Jesse Randhawa and her husband Sandip Soparrkar danced at one of the functions and the couple’s close friend P Diddy also performed.

– The guests were served local delicacies, for which the ingredients were sourced from Bajaria, a market town near Sawai Madhopur.

– The Aman Group, owned by Adrian Zecha, run three properties in India- The Aman at Lodhi Road, Delhi, Aman-I-Khas and the Aman Bagh in Alwar. Aman-I-Khas and Aman Bagh are a favourite among select super-rich and international celebrities who swear by the resort; they proudly call themselves ‘Aman Junkies’.

– Brand is planning two honeymoons—in Mauritius and Maldives
