Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring engaged couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates beautiful people in love as they start their lives together: because real love can only begin, never end. Over coffee, a makeover and a photo shoot we get couples to tell us how they met, show us their platinum love bands and talk about their day of love.
Sohail and Rinky are from Mumbai. Sohail works in his family business of textile manufacturing and import-export. Rinky is a Chartered Accountant and Lawyer who teaches Taxation, Law and Economics.
They met 9 years ago through a common friend. Rinky smiles, “Like a Bollywood flick, our relationship began with Sohail trying to figure something out because one of his friends was interested in me. A couple of months of friendship later, Sohail confessed he wanted to be with me.” The feeling wasn’t mutual for Rinky but at 19, she was more scared of losing her new best friend. “Like any naïve 19 year old, I thought it made sense to give in. It didn’t take long for me to feel a lot more than he felt for me. He’s an awe-inspiring human being. There are no shades of grey with Sohail. He’s absolutely black or white.”
“We got into a relationship with certain set rules and I believe that got us where we are so smoothly. We made sure we never used the word ‘break’ or ‘break up’ and if we did, we would gracefully end the relationship. It’s not always going to be a bed of roses. When the going gets tough, we always figure a way out, together. As naïve as we were, I think we made some wise decisions. And the cornerstone is Sohail’s attitude of not letting go.”
The couple has had few differences in opinion and no daunting obstacles to overcome. Rinky says, “If there were minor differences, we embraced those and agreed to disagree, we didn’t fight them.” All of 22, they knew that they were forever-people. Seeing their clarity, their families followed suit. “We decided to get married in July 2015 and got engaged in December, 2014. We had a small function where Sohail went down on one knee and proposed. It was really cute and caught me by surprise.”
Rinky and Sohail will tie the knot at a destination wedding on the 23rd of July, at Resort Rio, Goa. “It’s a small two-day affair with about 350 people. If I had to describe it, I’d say it’s a true Punjabi wedding. We’ve just concentrated on people coming in and having fun. There will be just a few, important rituals and lots of dancing and drinking. There’s a pool-party on day one, followed by the Sangeet and then dancing with our friends and family. The wedding ceremony is on Day two before which are the pujas, Sohail’s Thread Ceremony and my Chudda.”
Planning the wedding wasn’t difficult for them. They figured looks, themes, styles and designers by spending adequate time online. Rinky’s trousseau was shopped for mostly from Delhi though her Sangeet outfit is from Mumbai. “By the time we had to finalize, we were sure of how it had to be. WeddingSutra on Instagram helped me tons because every time I liked something I would screenshot it and eventually that’s how I made almost every decision.”
For their honeymoon, the timing and weather made Europe a no-brainer. But they also didn’t want to repeat any earlier visited destinations. “We’re going to Greece, the south of France and Monte Carlo. Santorini attracts all the honeymoon couples and we love partying so Mykonos does the trick. We’ve been dreaming about the South of France for eight years now and we’re really looking forward to going wine-tasting in St. Tropez!”
The couple loved the photo-shoot with WeddingSutra. Rinky says, “It was our first time and I came back ecstatic! When we began I was very shy at the idea of someone clicking and four people watching us: too much attention to deal with. But team WeddingSutra and Photographer Parag Gopale made us laugh with all their jokes and we suddenly started enjoying it. I also imagined Sohail would not be comfortable with a pre-nuptial shoot but it turned out that he was the one suggesting poses! So I’d say the people around definitely played their role in helping us chill out. What a fun afternoon with platinum love bands! Selecting and wearing the most elegant yet stunning platinum necklace and earrings from Manubhai Jewellers made me feel most special too.”
