Megha and Paul’s regal engagement photo shoot at Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad

Meticulously restored over a decade, the Taj Falaknuma Palace makes a remarkable impression on whoever steps into its environs. Perched 2,000 feet above Hyderabad, the City of Pearls, this marble palace is the definition of opulence. Today, it still exudes the glorious romance and grandeur it did when the Nizam ruled Hyderabad. With its elegant architecture and wealth of art, history and nature, there is no better canvas for an engagement and a pre-wedding photo shoot.

Megha and Paul fell in love with the luxury heritage palace hotel and planned their engagement and pre-wedding shoot here.

The bride-to-be tells us how she got to where she and her groom stand – for the shoot and at the altar.

How we met
“We live in San Francisco, California. I work at PwC as a management consultant and Paul is a program manager at Apple. We met at our last company, Stryker in April 2012. We were both in the same team and hung out together but even though we liked each other, we weren’t into dating at work and were always seeing other people.

Eventually, we gave into it and started dating in January 2015 just months before we both decided to leave Stryker. I think our friendship is what makes our relationship work. It is a REAL relationship which means we fight a lot and have a lot of disagreements but we love each other which always makes us come back together!”

Proposal
“We both love San Francisco; it truly is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We live in Nob Hill right by the beautiful Grace Cathedral. We’re both always traveling for work so I know he probably had a tough time figuring out the right timing. One fine Sunday morning we were walking back to the house and I knew he was supposed to travel for work later that afternoon. He stopped me mid-step, went down on his knee and said, “Spend the rest of your life with me”. It was just so simple, but iconic at the same time, as we always pass by the cathedral and will always remember the most special day of both our lives.”

Engagement and Pre-Wedding Shoot
“We were planning to visit my family in India and this was his first time meeting everyone in person so we were excited and nervous. We got engaged right before we left and my parents did a lot of the planning with us on FaceTime. They went around looking for venues in Hyderabad but all the most famous venues were booked as it was peak wedding season. Eventually, my dad went and saw Taj Falaknuma Palace and fell in love with it. He wanted to make it special for us, so a lot of intricate details were worked out very quickly. I am eternally grateful to my parents for leading the charge and making it a special day for both of us!

My best friend from college did the shoot. An engineer and now a full-time photographer, I want to give him a shout out here for doing such an amazing job. He was constantly with us and has such a great eye. He knew I wanted very candid pictures and he was able to take such amazing pictures that would always be memorable to us.

We decided present elegant, regal personas. I wore an elegant cream lehenga by Ritu Kumar and Paul wore a sherwani from Neeru’s. The floral prints on both our ensembles were a themed resonance and it went with the white floral theme we chose since the palace itself is so pretty and needs no adornment.”
