Vivek planned a surprise proposal for his lady love in Bangkok and even arranged for a photographer to secretly capture their most candid moments that would become memories for life!
We met in Detroit but had been to Bangkok to visit my cousins. I’d always wanted to propose to Melissa by surprising her and discussed this idea with my cousins a day before we landed in Bangkok. They got in touch with Anoop Krishnan from Anoop Photography and asked him to secretly capture some romantic moments from the proposal.
The Surprise Proposal
The initial plan was to shoot at the King Rama IX Park as it is very beautiful and also has expansive garden lawns which would look very picturesque in photos. To our utter dismay, the park was closed due to the sudden demise of the Thai King, His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej! I alerted my cousins and Anoop about the change of venue and asked them to meet us at Lumpini Park in the city center.
I wanted the photographer to be able to get candid, real emotions from us that would let him form a narrative but also to not let Melissa know or suspect anything. So even though I knew Anoop was following us, I kept Melissa distracted by chatting with her. There’s a beautiful bench in the middle of the park where I decided to propose to her. But, since it was evening, there were a lot of locals already crowding near the bench. Once they cleared, I asked Melissa to sit on the bench, took out a ring from my pocket, and asked her to marry me. She was left stunned but readily agreed!
Later, Anoop and my cousins joined us to celebrate our joy!
