The Power of Pink

If colour red is the classic choice of every bride, this season the mood is steering towards pink. “It’s a beautiful, feminine and summery colour that will look stunning if you get it right. Embrace it with a fashion perspective, not like a 12 year old,” says Stylist Nisha Kundnani of Bridélan.

The right pink for you:
Yes it’s a feminine colour but pick a shade that works for you. If hot pink and fuchsias repel you, then opt for soft blush or a happy coral. Kundnani, further elaborates, “Wearing any on-trend shade is something of a minefield because while one hue can brighten your complexion, another might completely drown you out. Also pink is a very feminine colour, which is why a lot of women are drawn to it. But every shade of pink works differently and some shades can be tricky and will need the extra confidence to pull it off.”

Keep the silhouettes contemporary diffusion:
For a beach wedding, traditional lehengas and saris can be a bit too much, so don’t let the weight weigh you down. Softer, breezier and lighter lehengas are trending right now. Cropped top inspired blouses with high waist lehengas, pre stitched sari gowns, flowy cowl-draped kurtas with dhoti pants make for interesting silhouettes to experiment with. Pink is also a safe colour for experimenting with silhouettes. “Pastel pinks, hot pinks or any kind of pinks are ideal for beach weddings as the colour also contrasts beautifully with the landscape of the beach, it blends well with ivory, sand, taupe and colours of the ocean too,” says Kundnani.

Pair it with traditional gold heirloom jewels:
The delicacy of pink when contrasted with the rooted and earthy gold accent creates an unmatched combination. “If your outfit is contemporary or fusion, then pick jewellery that is completely traditional as the balance between a contemporary outfit paired with traditional jewels makes for a unique combination”, says Kundnani. “Gold jhumkas, three tiered necklaces, maang tikkas and even dramatic naths can be added to the beach look. Indian jewellery speaks of Indian heritage and no matter how modern your wedding event is, jewellery brings in the touch of tradition, customs and celebrates the idea of mixing old and new. Also don’t forget to add the dash of shimmer. Occasionally, a few layers of polki/jadau is needed to add the important aspect of glamour. It’s your wedding and you must shine.”
