This couple tied the knot with a dreamy wedding at the enchanting Villa Del Balbianello – the location of Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding!
Wedding Planning - Jun 12, 2024
Lake Como has been the choice of location for many celebrity weddings, including those of George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, and Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, among others. With its rich heritage, unrivaled vistas, and luxurious villas, we can understand why they fell in love with this quaint Italian spot to celebrate their big day, just like Eshieta Deosskar and Sarthak Lohade!
Hosted at Villa Del Balbianello, the iconic 18th-century villa that was seen in movies like Star Wars and Casino Royale and was the elusive setting for Deep-Veer’s wedding, the celebration was designed and executed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Bling Mushrooms. The wedding was imagined in a romantic pastel palette, with striking yet minimalistic wedding decor that was curated with arrangements of dainty flowers tucked into niches and in between furniture, the beauty and fragrance of which made for a sensorial treat for the guests.
Portrayed against the mesmerizing backdrop of Lake Como, this wedding was an embodiment of a dream come true. Team Bling Mushrooms shared their insight on what goes into crafting such an exclusive and unusual wedding!
Tell us a little bit about the couple and what they were looking for in their wedding.
Based in Pune, the couple wanted a super intimate wedding with just their absolute inner circle. Instead of the usual extravagance associated with Indian weddings, they wanted a celebration that was exclusive and experiential, something that will forever stay in the hearts and minds of their loved ones.

What are the factors that you, as designers, must look into while planning a wedding at a destination as exclusive as Lake Como? Can you specify the challenges and the points of ease?
– We meticulously vet the vendors we work with, and all of them are based on personal recommendations to ensure the quality of their work.
– Language can be a barrier, but you can make do.
– We tend to design and carry smaller details like napkins and linens from India as they can get really expensive to source locally. We tend to gift it to local vendors after the event is done as a gesture of goodwill and to forge lasting relations.
– All information is sealed in writing and is acknowledged by every vendor involved. We also make timeline schedules with them to ensure the handover of the event is under control.
– The weather presented unexpected obstacles, with sudden gusts of wind and rain threatening to topple the meticulously arranged floral displays and delicate table settings. Despite the challenges, we worked tirelessly to secure everything in place, improvising and problem-solving on the spot to ensure that the decor remained stunning and intact.
– Both camaraderie and teamwork emerged as everyone rallied together to overcome adversity, reinforcing the idea that dedication and collaboration are essential in creating perfect weddings.

What did the couple seek to embody in their wedding? Talk us through your approach to implementing it.
The couple briefed us on the points that were important to them, post which they gave us full creative control over the design and execution of the wedding. We bought in a storyline with each event and stitched it together with the interactive activities and little details to make it wholesome and experiential.
What was your vision as you designed the wedding with the majestic Villa del Balbianello as your canvas?
We wanted to bring in the balance between beautiful and minimalistic to organically elevate the immaculate beauty and distinctive personality of the property. The play of flowers was uplifted by the color palette we chose and the design of the layout, perfectly offset by the choice of furniture, lending an ethereal vibe to the whole space.

Indian families are always on the lookout for unique elements when it comes to weddings. Did you cater to any out-of-the-box or unconventional requests as you designed this wedding?
– We had a theme of “Dadam Ka bagheecha” as the general storyline of the wedding, so all details like the room hampers, stationaries, notes, and welcome event were crafted to match the theme.
– People were welcomed with pomegranate-based cocktails and pure pomegranate juice.
– Embroidered tote bags matching the theme were gifted to the guests as wedding takeaways.
– We did a make-your-own pizza party as a filler event, which turned out to be the most fun occasion of the entire wedding. We customised aprons and chef caps for each and every guest, who made their own pizza from scratch while sipping on their mimosas and sangrias. It was as engaging as it was unique and memorable.

Are there any unique anecdotes you would like to share from this wedding from your perspective as a designer?
The stunning natural backdrop of the lake and mountains served as the perfect canvas for our artistic vision. Every detail was very carefully curated, from the elegant floral arrangements to the sparkling lights reflecting on the water, to create a fairytale setting for the couple’s special day. Seeing the joy and awe on the faces of the guests as they entered the transformed space, and how the setting truly made the couple’s dreams come to life, was worth every effort.

We are seeing more and more Indian couples seeking offbeat destinations, unique decor aesthetics, and muted luxury. How do you cater to this shift in tastes and preferences to ensure fresh ideas and concepts for your clients?
– It is essential to stay innovative! We keep ourselves informed about the latest trends in wedding decor, both nationally and internationally and stay updated on emerging design concepts, color palettes, and decor styles. Sometimes knowing what not to do is more important than knowing what to do.
– It is important to understand your client’s unique preferences and requirements. We work closely with the couples to tailor the decor to their tastes, incorporating elements that resonate with them personally and culturally.
– It is imperative to make your own beautiful, and not copy-paste something that’s already done. You can seek inspiration, but you must build it up from that yourself. Authenticity is key.
– Building a robust network of vendors, artisans, and suppliers is a must, who can provide unique decor elements and services that align with offbeat aesthetics.
– Each decor concept is infused with a personal touch or narrative that reflects the couple’s love story, interests, or cultural heritage. We create a cohesive theme that resonates with the couple and enhances the overall experience for them and their guests.
– One must always be open to experimentation and be willing to push boundaries creatively. Embracing unconventional ideas and design concepts that set your work apart is the only way to keep catering to changing preferences.
