Two Wedding Planners Planned their Own Wedding, and You’d Want to Know How!

The founders of WeddingSutra Favorite – The Wedding Designers, Rishi and Yamini recently tied the knot (no points for guessing who the wedding planners were) and managed to create an affair that was unique in every sense. With just one function, that was spread across three different venues, themes that were derived from the couple’s personal experiences and dreams and a menu with innumerable references to the bride’s favorite fantasy films, the couple raise the bar on several fronts.

Yamini and Rishi met each other at a house party in Bandra where a mutual friend introduced them, and it was fireworks from the get-go. Their love for all things beautiful and luxurious brought them closer and together they set up their own bespoke wedding planning company, The Wedding Designers. Over the years as they spent more time with each other, they realized it was time to move on from being just business partners to coming together as life partners too. Thus, Rishi surprised Yamini with a trip to Greece and popped the question over champagne and strawberries in Mykonos!

To seal the deal, the couple exchanged their vows at Le Farm, a quaint farmhouse atop a hill by the Vadivali Lake in Kamshet, near Pune. Yamini is a highlander and wanted to get married somewhere up in the mountains, and Rishi made it his mission to find one such place closer to home! It was an intimate wedding of 150 close friends and families and this venue made for the perfect fit.

The wedding was planned in 30 days during their hours after work! What came in handy, however, was their clear vision regarding what they wanted for the decor which was planned around their proposal story, their love for food and travel, and their dream of the future. The decor was designed by the couple and executed by their expert team at The Wedding Designers.

Yamini conceptualized the decor for the D-day. Talking about the process, Yamini shares, “It was challenging to design a wedding at a farmhouse with three levels (each level was lower down the slope of the hill). We had to be smart logistically as entry and exit points at a farmhouse for large materials is not like it is at a hotel. The team at Le Farm, right from the owners to the entire staff, however, were super helpful and made sure that they made us as comfortable as they possibly could”

While the food area had influences of Florence and Paris, the bar level with its blue and white decor was reminiscent of Greece and paid an ode to Rishi’s proposal to Yamini in Mykonos. The wedding area captured the dreams of their future together, thus featured colors and aesthetics evocative of the lavender fields of Provence, the French region where the two plan to settle in one day.

Being an ardent fan of Disney, Harry Potter and all things magical, Yamini made sure that indications to her favorite stories were entwined in the decor, desserts, stationery and the music that she chose! She made golden snitch chocolates that were mentioned in the ‘Harry Potter books’ herself and drinks named Gilly Water, Butterbeer and Felix Felicis were served at the bar. Chocolates were wrapped in ‘Eat Me’ wrappers from ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ and ‘Be Our Guest’ valet tickets from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ were given to guests. The wedding program had vows written by the couple to each other with quotes and poems by their favorite writers. There was a grand white piano that played all the Disney love songs as the couple walked down the aisle.

Offering a word of advice to brides who are planning their wedding, Yamini says, “Plan the wedding keeping your story in mind and enjoy your celebrations once the prep is done. Everything will fall into place. Trust us. Come rain, hail or storm every love story always has a beautiful ending – or rather beginning!”
Magic Weavers was chosen to capture the duo’s memories from their big day and they did a brilliant job along with GoPro India. Pakkhi Pahuja was the one behind the bride’s dewy look, and Kaushal was responsible for her whimsical hairdo. The ones who got everyone in a festive spirit were Gaia Gourmet with their delectable food, DJ Swap with this repertoire of groovy songs and The Wedding Bartenders with their expert bartending skills.
