Vatsala and Pranay’s Platinum Love Story

Vatsala, an ambitious fashion entrepreneur, and Pranay, a leader of a Bengaluru based food startups first encountered each other at the workplace where through a fortunate turn of events they both ended up sharing a cab ride that helped their love take root. Vatsala recollects, “Both of us used to work at the same startup in Bangalore but frequented different circles as he was a part of the senior management and I was the MBA student who’d just joined the PR department. However, our paths did converge when we were slated to attend a product launch together and on our way back, we shared a cab ride home. And it was during this journey that both of us first spoke openly to each other out of the office environment and realized the chemistry brewing between us. Soon, we started seeing each other secretly as we didn’t want things to get tricky professionally.”
Strengthened in the face of uncertainty, the relationship between this career-driven couple has flourished in the past year. Bolstered by Pranay’s unwavering faith in her ambitions, Vatsala took the pivotal decision of starting a new business amidst the Covid-19 lockdown, a time when most businesses were closing their shutters or battening down the hatches. This, in turn, forged an invincible bond that has not only made them stronger as individuals but also given them the courage to chase their dreams. Vatsala shares, “With Pranay by my side, I took the bold decision to start my own business, a Kashmiri fashion label named Urzuv, during the lockdown. Coming from a family that has always been in service, I had no clue about the amount of work that goes into creating a business from scratch. But, at every step of the way, Pranay, who hails from a hardcore business and entrepreneurial background, helped out to make my dreams come true.
Once I took the plunge into running my own business, I realized that there was a whole host of things that you have to check off your list, like getting your business trademarked and registering it. Being an MBA degree holder, I understand how to run a business but Pranay’s practical knowledge and experience was like a gold mine for me. In fact, you could say that I found my own business consultant at home! He teamed up with me to come up with a business plan, taught me how to negotiate with vendors, and helped me develop a supply chain. I knew from the onset that I was venturing into uncharted territory and for the first few months, it did feel very weird working from home and not reporting to an office every day. But Pranay not only helped me with his business acumen but also believed in my dream and passionately supported me as I built a business of my own. Even today, when I get stuck during negotiations, he steps in, talks to the vendors to untangle the discussion. If it wasn’t for him and knowing that he has my back no matter what, I would’ve never been able to gather up the courage to start my own business.”
Pranay on the other hand admires Vatsala’s deep understanding of the passion he has for his work. He shares, “I think Vatsala showed a tremendous amount of courage and conviction in her dreams when she made the bold decision to start her own business during the lockdown. The lockdown hasn’t been kind on the food-tech industry, so her courage also inspired me to face all the uncertainties head-on.
Even before the lockdown, there were times when I would come back home late or be busy on the weekends. Thankfully, we have a similar mindset when it comes to putting work first and that really helps in such situations.”
