The royal reception was held on 21st December at the Durbar Hall of the Taj Diplomatic Enclave (earlier known as Taj Palace). It was planned by ace Mumbai-based wedding planners ShaadiSquad who also managed their intimate wedding celebrations in Italy in collaboration with a local partner Super Tuscan Wedding Planners.
Anushka wore a red Benarasi saree inspired by the Peeli Kothi in Benaras and a heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewelery collection. Virat complemented his bride in a very subtle and elegant manner. He wore a black textured silk signature Bandhgala and teamed it with a white silk kurta with hand woven brocade churidaar.
A red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in Anushka’s hair completed her traditional and royal look. Virat accessorised his outfit with mojris from Sabyasachi’s accessories line and a hand embroidered antique pashmina shawl from their ‘Kashmir Revival’ project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the occasion and congratulated the couple on their marriage. Other guests included family members of Virat and Anushka and cricketers Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir.
The couple will host another reception for their friends from film and cricket industry on December 26 at the Astor Ballroom at The St. Regis in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Early next year, the newly weds are expected to move into their 35th floor luxury pad at ‘1973’ (Omkar 1973- a grand skyscraper developed by Omkar Realtors and Developers in Worli).
