My Best Friend Amrita Mukherjee’s wedding

Amrita and her bridesmaids strike a pose in some of WeddingSutra's Favorites

Call it the girl-gang, the mod-squad, the cute crew, having your besties by your side at the most important times in your life is an unparalleled feeling.

It was only when bride Amrita attended the WeddingSutra Masterclass, that she realized she’d been missing out on the various kinds of bridal shoots the wedding experts host. Amrita says, “It was so exciting! The wedding related information was brilliant and just hearing about all the different sorts of pre-wedding shoots thrilled me. So when the team chose me and my bridesmaids to participate in the My Best Friend’s Wedding shoot, I was thrilled!”

Amrita, bridesmaids- Niharika, Mithila, Taniya, Anuja, Mitali and Apurba – in tow, got to the Intercontinental Hotel, Marine Drive in the morning and were immediately escorted into the plush suite that would be their ‘hub’ for the duration of the shoot. “I loved the suite. It was warm and spacious,” Amrita says, “And the team put us at ease immediately.”

This bevy of beautiful bridesmaids are all very style conscious and they cast a discerning eye over the gorgeous ensembles from Stage3, the company that lets you curate, style and rent authentic designer wear at affordable prices.

Amrita chose a stunning pink and orange leheria lehenga from designer Anju Modi. Constructed out of silk and georgette, the lehenga was a wonderful blend of a modern silhouette and traditional zari embroidery. Amrita says, “I thought it was really unique. It ticked the traditional box but has an aura of modernity about it. It suited my personality perfectly.”

The bridesmaids were spoilt for choice – gowns, anarkalis or saris? Which would they choose to complement their friend’s attire?

Mithila went with sheer layers and sparkles in a gorgeous Nitya Bajaj gown that combined nude net with gold sequins.

Taniya went traditional-with-edge in a super silk saree by Anamika Khanna with hues of metal – silver and bronze – combined with contrasting peach and intricate silver kasadb work on the borders.

Amrita - BridesmaidsTaniya wears a beautiful silk Anamika Khanna Saree that is available for Rs 89,100 but can rented for Rs 4,999 from Stage 3

Anuja also chose a saree, this one in white net with gorgeous borders by Manish Malhotra. If its stunning gota patti work seemed familiar its because none other than Priyanka Chopra has been photographed wearing the same design.

Apurba loves pastels and this dreamy, flowy, dusty rose anarkali from Aastha Narang was subtle and sophisticated with gold sequined florals that twinkled when she twirled.

Mitali and Niharika both wanted something contemporary with a twist. Niharika wore a clever jumpsuit in peach and cream by Ridhima Bhasin whose combination of draping, embroidery and net dupatta was a vision.

Mitali wore an ethereal Ridhima Bhasin pre-draped ensemble in heavenly peach with ivory and gold embroidery, a great upgrade from the traditional lehenga.

The girls accessorized with stunning pieces from Gehna jewelers. Amrita and her friends admit they love jewellery, “This was a perfect chance for us to adorn ourselves with the best jewellery from Gehna! My friends chose antique necklaces that accentuated their indo-western outfits. I personally loved the Kundan necklace and earrings set as it really went well with my pink outfit.”

Makeup artists Kajol Paswan and Johann Arora worked magic on the girls. Not only did they bring out their fresh-faced appeal, they also gave them some invaluable tips on makeup application. Amrita is not a regular with makeup and was thrilled with the look Kajol conjured up for her, “Kajol really helped me look my best on that day. She accentuated my eyes and lips with colors that complemented my skin tone. The hair was done in cascading waves, which made me feel like a mermaid!”

Finally all the prepping was over and it was time to shoot those photos! Photographers Namit and Vipul of Knotty Affair made sure the girls had the best time posing for the duo. “They were very patient with all of us,” the bride-to-be remembers, “We all love posing for selfies anyway, but they really added a fun Element and made sure we enjoyed every moment without tiring us or letting us feel self conscious!”

Amidst all the fashion and fabulous and fun, Amrita found herself getting teary eyed, “I am so touched that my best girls bunked work and are here with me on such a special day. This has been an emotional experience and I am ever so grateful to WeddingSutra for allowing me to have this special day with my girl squad.”
