Aalika Banerji – Shyamal & Bhumika

As part of our initiative, WeddingSutra On Location, we invited four brides-to-be to a unique experience. Held at Shyamal and Bhumika’s flagship store in Kemps Corner, Mumbai, each bride was treated to a Style Consultation, a Makeover and a Photo Shoot. Here, in the first of the four-part series, bride-to-be Dr Aalika Banerji blogs about her On Location experience at Shyamal & Bhumika.

“While doing some research for my wedding, I saw a friend’s shoot on WeddingSutra. I instantly pictured myself in one of those gorgeous ensembles and just knew I had to be part of something like this! I was one of the lucky few who got a chance to be part of WeddingSutra’s first Masterclass. That’s where I learnt more about the ‘On Location’ event and I informed Team WeddingSutra of my interest. A week later, I received a confirmation! I was one of the shortlisted brides for their next shoot!

I had butterflies as I reached the Shyamal and Bhumika store on the morning of the shoot. Team WeddingSutra was there to greet me and introduce me to the experts. Their warmth put me at ease immediately. The intricate haveli style interiors of the store were the perfect backdrop for the shoot, I thought. As I began to look through the lehengas, a colour palette of blues and beiges was suggested. I tried on a few combinations and was ecstatic when I found the perfect outfit! It stood out. I fell in love with its perfect mix of tradition and contemporary style. The jewellery from TBZ’s Azva collection complemented the outfit and I was all set to get dolled up!

I was delighted to meet make-up artist Amrita Sanghvi who I have already booked for one of my wedding functions. She is so much fun. She gave me a bold blue, smokey shadow to accentuate my eyes, nude lips and my hair in soft curls. I’m usually a tough customer to please but I was sold!

Finally, it was time for the shoot. Aayushi and Kanishka from the Wedding Salad are so easy to work with and open to my suggestions as well. I particularly loved the idea of twirling in the lehenga while they captured the movement in the ceiling mirrors. We ended with a lovely group shot of all four participant brides, all in hues of beige and blue Shyamal and Bhumika ensembles. It was super meeting them and exchanging notes and wedding tips too!

Aalika’s Look

“Aalika is a gorgeous bride-to-be with big beautiful eyes and I couldn’t resist highlighting them”, shares Makeup artist Amrita Sangavi. She started with creating the base with the feather-light Lakmé Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse in Ivory Fair and set it with the Lakmé Absolute Face Stylist Compact in Ivory Fair. To highlight her eyes, she used the Lakmé Absolute Color Illusion Pearl Shadow in Peach Pearl for a shimmery base and the Smokey Pearl shade to create the smokey look. To add a hint of blue, Amrita lined her waterline with the Lakmé Absolute Gel Addict eyeliner in Deep Sea shade and finished with a few coats of the Lakmé Absolute Flutter Secrets Dramatic Eyes Mascara to add an oomph factor complimenting her glamorous cascading lehenga. Since the eyes were the highlight, Amrita kept the rest of Alika’s face muted and dewy with a hint of Lakmé Absolute Face Stylist Blush Duos in Peach Blush shade on the apples of her cheeks. For her lips she used the Lakmé Absolute Gloss Addict in Berry Cherry shade. She then added extensions to her hair and styled them with soft curls.
