India is a potpourri of diverse regional cultures, each of which is showcased the most beautifully on special festive occasions of that state, especially weddings. Needless to say, the Indian bride, on her big day embodies all that her heritage and background represent.
In the first of this three-part series, soon-to-wed Rachna stepped into the shoes of a Marwari bride from Rajasthan as she embraced the vibrant hues of the state through her outfit and paired it with kundan ornaments by Kalyan Jewellers that is native to the region. The brand’s 109-year-old legacy of crafting fine jewellery is backed by the trust that they have built amongst their patrons through their commitment to quality and impeccable designs. Each of their pieces draws inspiration from India’s rich past and makes its way into the hearts of modern brides who are rooted in traditions.
Using her expertise in bridal styles and cultural nuances, stylist Shikha Dhandhia transformed Rachna into a quintessential Marwari bride. She chose a beautiful ensemble designed by Jayanti Reddy. The modern silhouette and style of the outfit were offset by the wonderfully crafted pieces of traditional jewellery by Kalyan Jewellers. While the lehenga matched Rachna’s personality and frame very well, the look created for her by makeup artist Sejal Sachnakul of Makeovers by Sejal took her beauty to the next level. She used products by Lakmé Absolute to achieve perfection and the premium quality cosmetics ensured that Rachna’s bridal look was flawless. The brand’s wide-ranging products allowed Sejal to bring her vision to life with ease, and Rachna’s hairstyle by Bhagyashree added an elegant finishing touch. The team at Reflexion by Nishchay Shinde captured beautiful moments from the day in wonderfully composed frames.
A bride’s wedding jewellery is the focal point of her look, and in order to make Rachna’s getup memorable, Kalyan Jewellers extended only the most exquisite pieces of polki jewellery from their Tejaswi Collection. This line features an exclusive assemblage of rare large diamonds along with gemstones to create the most exquisite pieces. The ornaments brought together gleaming uncut diamonds in designs that made for a fitting choice for a Marwari bride. Rachna wore a borla, a traditional Rajasthani ‘maang tikka’ (forehead ornament), that featured floral motifs and was a lovely match with the heavy necklace. The green accents of this set stood out against the colors of the bride’s outfit, and the gorgeous ethnic ring, bracelets, and hoop-shaped nose ornament were in sync with the other pieces. Picking out her favorite piece, Rachna said, “I was in love with the regal necklace the minute I saw it, and I felt like a princess wearing it. Not only was it very well designed, but it was also very carefully crafted. I also quite liked the dainty borla and the way it effortlessly added to my look’s ethnic appeal.”
The vibrant Jayanti Reddy lehenga that stylist Shikha Dhandhia chose for Rachna included a purple blouse covered in floral patterns created using golden zardosi and pearls, while the maroon and red skirt comprised of panels, each one of which featured different nature-inspired designs. A golden dupatta was paired with the ensemble and had Rachna looking absolutely stunning. She said, “The lehenga that was chosen for me was very unique and stood out effortlessly. I really like vibrant color palettes, which is why this outfit truly had my heart!”
Sejal Sachnakul of Makeovers by Sejal created magic when it came to giving Rachna the most striking bridal look that was understated yet timeless. While she used a number of cosmetics by Lakmé Absolute to create the look, the star here undoubtedly was the Lakmé Absolute Matte Revolution Lip Color in Envious Red. This lipstick that packs in the nourishment of raspberry seed oil ensured the smoothest application on her lips and had her lips feeling supple all day. It’s long-wear formula combined with its creamy texture made sure that there was no fading or cracking of color and gave her the most perfect pout. This deeply pigmented shade had Rachna’s gushing about it. “I thought that this shade was wonderful and a great option for those who wished to wear a red that is relatively more subdued than the classic.” She also shared her experience of working with Sejal and Bhagyashree, “Both of them were such a great team to work with. They were also very accommodating and accepting of my inputs, which made me very comfortable.”
Sejal Sachnakul went with a minimalistic approach while creating Rachna’s look and let her beautiful complexion shine. She began by applying the Lakmé Absolute Blur Perfect Primer to create a smooth base, and layered it with the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation In Ivory Cream to give her skin an even tone. She then set in the products by using the Lakmé Absolute White Intense Wet and Dry Compact. Next, she moved to the eyes and drew shades from the Lakmé Absolute Illuminating Eye Shadow Palette – Nude Beach to give Rachna’s lids a touch of rich earthy hues before lining them using the Lakmé Absolute Kohl Ultimate in Black. She swiped the Kareena Kapoor Khan Lakmé Absolute Cheek Contour In Peach Princess across her cheeks and rubbed the colors in using her fingers.
