Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad, Delhi
Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker hosted a glitzy reception after tying the knot with politician Fahad Ahmed.
Actress Swara Bhasker tied the knot with Samajwadi Party Youth Wing President Fahad Ahmad in Delhi where they celebrated their love with a series of close-knit events. Designed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Foreign Wedding Planners, their festivities sported the perfect amount of quirk and elegance which, in turn, made it a wedding to remember!
Swara and Fahad, who share similar views when it comes to politics, frequently crossed paths at rallies and meetings. And, that is where their love blossomed as they openly discussed their views and shared their thoughts. As time flew by, the bond only became stronger and led them to tie the knot with a quiet civil marriage ceremony. As March came around, the couple decided to host a string of fun-filled festivities where top politicians and Bollywood stars gathered to wish them.
An ardent admirer of all things desi, Swara wanted an absolutely desi-style traditional decor at her events. Hence, the haldi was inspired by the aesthetics of South India, the mehndi and sangeet took a cue from the famous ‘dilli-haat with a parrot astrologer, a kids ferris wheel , banta, chuski and chaat!
Mehndi and Sangeet
The festivities kicked off with a feminine yet quirky mehndi event where everyone had blast as they celebrated under the open sky. Inspired by flavours of Delhi with corners decorated with fresh blooms, colourful tin vases, popcorn tubs filled with marigolds, windmills and sunflowers – the event exuded a cheery vibe that had everyone smiling as they got henna patterned on their palms.
Carnatic Music Recital
The mehndi was followed by an afternoon of Carnatic music where Swara embraced her roots while talented musicians left everyone mesmerised.
After the upbeat music of the mehndi, the celebrations moved on to the Sufi side of things where Sufi Qawaali singers left everyone mesmerized with their tunes. This event was hosted under the starry sky and Swara looked beautiful as she donned a velvet palazzo set with a green dupatta.
Decorated with marigolds, earthen decor elements, brass urlis and local fruits – the haldi was a daytime event where the duo were at their playful best. After the rituals were done, the event quickly transitioned into a holi party where everyone slathered each other with a multitude of colors. The haldi was an all-yellow and green affair inspired by the natural greens of Swara’s maternal grandmother’s farmhouse and Telugu traditions as Swara’s father Commodore Uday Bhasker is Telugu and mother Professor Ira Bhasker is from Bihar.
After these close-knit festivities, the duo hosted two wedding receptions – one from Swara’s side of the family and one from Fahad’s. The first reception was hosted by Swara’s family which was decorated with fresh blooms. Film star Jaya Bachchan along with political heavyweights like, Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Supriya Sule were in attendance.
Meanwhile, for the second reception, Swara was welcomed by Fahad’s family and the bride looked regal in a heavy lehenga designed by a Pakistani designer.
