Indian badminton champion, two-time Olympian, and recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, Jwala Gutta recently tied the knot in Hyderabad with her long-term beau Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal. A grand celebration that celebrated both their cultures, their nuptials witnessed the athlete shedding her sporty outfits in favor of Indian bridal classics like saris and lehengas. The second innings in love for them both, the wedding was a close-knit affair keeping all the pandemic’s safety protocols in mind.

Kicking off their wedding festivities was a beautiful yet close-knit mehndi function where Jwala chose to keep it simple and comfy in an elegant orange saree. Bordered by red and gold threadwork, this saree made the happy bride look radiant under the sunlight as she showed off her henna patterned palms which included a badminton racket design! On the accessories front, she chose statement gem-encrusted jhumkas and let her hair flow freely around her shoulders.

For the formal mehndi function, the athlete looked like a ray of sunshine in a light yellow lehenga with floral motifs embroidered with pearls and sequins. Adding to the outfit and enhancing her silhouette was a matching belt and sheer dupatta. Furthermore, the happy bride wore a pearl and emerald panch lada haar, a maang tikka, chandbalis, and statement rings.

After the beautiful yellow lehenga, Jwala pulled all the stops for her mehndi function yet again as she changed into a stunning floral lilac lehenga. Adorned with intricate resham, crystal, and sequin work to highlight the all-over floral patterns, this lehenga was romantic yet glamorous.

Next in line was the Haldi celebration which was boisterous, to say the least! Attended by the duo’s close friends and family, the event was decorated in marigolds and rajanigandha. In lieu of the lively festivities, Jwala opted for a light and unembellished yellow saree which she paired with silver jhumkas.

Looking like a million bucks in her Kanchipuram saree and heavily embroidered blouse, Jwala, who has a Chinese mother and a Telugu father, was a stunner at her Tamil wedding. Choosing a sky blue hue for her outfit, she contrasted Vishnu who donned a plain white silk shirt and veshti. Adding a generous dollop of bling to her attire was a nath, a pair of gold jhumkas, a multilayered necklace, a choker necklace, a mathapatti along with bold red chooda. For her makeup, she kept it simple yet classy by opting for dewy skin, a nude lip, and a single red bindi.

Taking the contemporary route for the reception, Jwala wore a metallic fuchsia and silver lehenga. Giving a 3D effect with its intricate metalwork, the lehenga was the perfect pick for a glamorous evening with its voluminous tulle skirt, hand embroidered pearl and metallic polymer beads, and gold-shaded single strap bodice. Adding a final flourish to the lehenga was a matching dupatta which she draped over one shoulder. Since the lehenga had enough glimmer on its own, Jwala chose to keep her jewelry on the minimalistic side with a pearl emerald choker with a matching statement ring and earrings. Her makeup consisted of a subtle brown smokey eye, pink cheeks, and a nude lip.

Taking a cue from his bride, Vishnu too wore a silver and black metallic blazer with a matching shirt within.
