Why Finland?
“It was Sonakshi’s first time in snow, so it had to be a stunning destination with picturesque views. The one thing Sonakshi was focused on was getting to see the Northern Lights. Since they are visible from several locations, we considered other places like Switzerland, and we finally decided on Norway and Finland. Finland, fondly known as the ‘Land of Thousand Lakes’ takes your breath away from the very first moment you arrive, and the stellar mix of luxury and pristine beauty makes it an idyllic choice.”

Hotel(s) stayed at
“Starting the trip from Norway and traveling all the way across Finland, the trip included 5 stops with incredible stay experiences, from the renowned Northern Light Village to a resort of glass igloos, and more. After her exploration of Norway, Sonakshi headed to Finland on a 2-night arctic cruise on New Years eve, which made it one of the most memorable experiences of her life!”

Memorable activities
From looking at the stars from inside the Aurora cabin, going husky sledding in the vast white expanse, and chasing the northern lights to roasting marshmallows on a bonfire in the middle of nowhere, drinking hot chocolate, and freezing at -14 degrees only to get into a hot tub, Sonakshi’s first time in the snow was as memorable as could be.

She also shared about her visit to ‘Santa Claus’ with a gleeful post that read, “I crossed over to the Arctic Circle, I met Santa Claus… and some reindeers, and I made snow angels for the first time, ice skated for the first time, went hunting for the northern lights and came back with some amazing pictures of me with the moon, ate food in a glass igloo, went partying in an empty nightclub made of ice, rode a snowmobile for the first time… It’s so cold but how am I melting???”

While the trip was brimming with memorable experiences, here are the best highlights of her itinerary!

Advice to couples

Dhwani shares, “Spend as many days above the Arctic Circle as possible to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. Work with a travel advisor as it’s a very remote region and requires special planning. Book at least 3-4 months in advance. Ensure you are well prepared with appropriate winter clothing.”
