Rohit and Maithili, Baku

The film doesn’t just highlight the union of two souls, it may also have been the first Indian wedding in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan.

One day someone will walk into your life and you won’t remember how you ever lived without them. Rohit and Maithili decided to get married in the city of winds, Baku in Azerbaijan.

A slick montage of monochrome frames cut to edgy music opens the film. You get glimpses of the bride, her groom, their rings, snapshots of the city, the bride’s blouse sleeve with the Taj Mahal embroidered into it. And then, the views open to vistas of Baku, a city on the hill, on the Caspian shore, clear blue skies, ancient and modern architecture, culture and celebration.

The film then splices visuals from different ceremonies – smooth moves on the dance floor at the sangeet, a baraat on the wide, tree-lined avenues of Baku, and now it’s time to listen to the vows. Love is both unique and universal and Maithili’s promises of friendship, love, loyalty, and snacks make you smile. Rohit’s promises of family and fidelity are powerful and true. His face, as he watches his bride walk down the aisle, is a picture of calm, poised, surety. These two are soul mates.

With snapshots that capture typical Indian celebrations in a gorgeous, absolutely exotic locale, the heartwarming film ends with the beginning of a happily ever after!
