Abhisha and Sagar, Jaipur

US-based Abhisha and Sagar traveled across India, from Kerala for their pre-wedding photo shoot to Rajasthan for their regal, colorful nuptials .

Abhisha and Sagar are both based in New Jersey, US. She is an immigration lawyer with her own practice, and he works at a pharmaceutical company. Abhisha found Sagar a little shy at their first meeting, but he was determined to get to know her after that. Their journey led them to a beautiful wedding at Fairmont Jaipur Hotel, where they pulled off lavish celebrations that were high on elegance. WeddingSutra Favorite House on the Clouds brings to us the pictures of their dreamy destination wedding, and the bride shares details of her big day.

How We Met
“Sagar and I met through my childhood friend in 2015. She was getting married to Sagar’s brother and thought it would be a great idea to introduce me to Sagar, so she set up a double date for us. Sagar was very quiet during the double date so I thought he might not be interested. However, it turns out that he was shy. He texted me ‘Good morning’ or called to wish me ‘Good morning’ every single day after that (and he still hasn’t missed a day). I quickly realized he is one of the sweetest guys I have ever met. After the double date, Sagar took me out on a real date to go mini-golfing and dinner, and it was the best date I have ever been on. The rest after that is history – we got engaged in April 2017 and tied the knot in January 2018.”

Wedding Proposal
“Sagar took me on a surprise weekend trip to Chatham, Massachusetts, in April 2017. We got ready for dinner, and when we walked in, I realized the whole restaurant was empty. There was a private room overlooking the ocean which was filled with flowers and candles everywhere. I walked into the room to look at the ocean view, and when I turned around, Sagar got down on one knee and proposed. After the proposal, we had a private dinner with a custom menu prepared by the chef just for our proposal.”

Pre-Wedding Shoot
“Our wedding was in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and so we wanted to do a pre-wedding shoot in India to give it a destination wedding feel but also do something different than Rajasthan. I am also a huge Bollywood fan, so I knew I wanted to do something completely Bollywood but still modern for our video. We came across Munnar, Kerala, and it looked completely surreal. There are endless hills with tea gardens and more greenery than the eye can imagine. The best part of the shoot was the rain. We chose the Yash Raj poetry as our background song which references ‘Baarish,’ and we were lucky enough that it started raining at the end of our shoot and we were able to capture those moments. We had so much fun running around, being playful in the tea estates and just being ourselves in the rain. We also wanted to incorporate the ocean in the shoot as well because the beach is my favorite place, so we decided to do the rest of the shoot in the backwaters at Kumarakom. We rented a houseboat for the day, and we hung out with our family on the boat while doing the shoot. The shoot turned out to be a mini vacation for the both of us, and we discovered a hidden gem in India!”

Wedding Functions

Cocktail Party
“The first function was the cocktail party. We wanted to keep a very glitzy/casino theme for this function. So, the decor was centered around a casino theme, and we had artists such as sphere dancers and martini glass dancers as part of the entertainment.”

Mehndi
“The theme of the mehndi was a pink ‘mela’ (fair). Pink, because we were in the Pink City of Jaipur, and ‘mela’ because we wanted an authentic Rajasthani vibe for this event. We had folk dancers, carnival games, and traditional Rajasthani dance lessons for our guests.”

Sangeet
“The sangeet theme was ‘Starry Night.’ We chose white and blue as the theme colors and this night’s programme was full of dances from both sides of the family. Sagar and I decided to enter the venue with fireworks in the background. The entire stage backdrop was covered with rice lights, and we had a suspended star from the ceiling to add to the theme.”

Wedding
“For the wedding ceremony, we decided to keep it traditional and go with an orange and pink theme for the decor. We had a floral backdrop in the mandap and floral elephant statues throughout the rooftop.”

Reception
“For the reception, we kept a ‘Night in the Oasis’ theme and the decor consisted of Moroccan lamps alongside blue and orange floral decor in the hall. The reception consisted of speeches from both sides of the family and one last night of partying before everyone left the next day.”
