How They Met
Anokhi Sandip Sriram Magodia shares, “Ours is a story that blossomed quietly and beautifully over time. We were just two 11-year-olds who met in a 6th-grade English class—what began as friendship grew into something deeper by the time we turned 17. As young adults, we leaned on the foundation of understanding we had built, and our bond evolved into a love filled with joy, discovery, and unwavering support. From college days at Rutgers to navigating distance and finally building a home together in Jersey City, every phase has reaffirmed that we were meant to be. Simply put—we were kids who fell in love, young adults who grew in love, and life partners who have stayed in love.”
The Proposal
Anokhi Sandip Sriram Magodia shares, “An engagement is a promise shared—and I knew in my heart that Sridhar deserved a moment as meaningful as the one he gave me. It mattered deeply to him that we both wore symbols of our love, so while we designed his engagement band together, he had no idea I was planning a proposal of my own. I wanted it to be unexpected, heartfelt, and centred around music—something we both cherish. On February 2nd, exactly nine years after our first kiss, I led him to our rooftop under the pretence of dinner plans. There, under the twinkling NYC skyline, a cellist played ‘L-O-V-E’ by Nat King Cole. As we stood wrapped in that magical moment, I asked him, ring in hand—‘Will you spend the rest of our lives together, too?’ His joyful ‘Yes’ and happy dance said it all. ”

The groom’s spirited baraat gave way to a serene ceremony under a canopy of cascading pastel blooms. The aisle was adorned with an exquisite tapestry of pastel-hued florals—roses, hydrangeas, and baby’s breath. Surrounded by lush florals and loved ones, the couple exchanged garlands in a moment of quiet elegance. Anokhi’s coral and sage lehenga paired beautifully with Sridhar’s embroidered sherwani.
To reflect a true fusion of their cultures, the wedding ceremony combined Anokhi’s Gujarati and Sridhar’s Tamil and Telugu identities. This spanned everything from the Ponkwanu (Gujarati welcoming of the groom’s side) to the Oonjal ceremony (South Indian initiation of the ceremony with the bride and groom on a swing – in this case, a beautiful bench with a floral backdrop) and everything in between.
Reception

Gilded chandeliers cast a soft glow over tables accented with candlelight and delicate florals. The couple’s first dance beneath the sparkling lights was a heartfelt moment of joy, while the evening soon gave way to high-energy celebrations. Surrounded by friends and laughter, the newlyweds revelled in a night that was a perfect finale to their beautifully orchestrated wedding.

The couple shares, “Wedding planning can be overwhelming, but it’s important to make the journey enjoyable—infuse fun into the process, because these moments are rare and deserve to be remembered fondly. Remember, you deserve to be celebrated; your loved ones are coming together to honor your union, and that joy is meant for you. If something feels essential to you, don’t compromise. Do it if you’re able, because those meaningful choices will be worth it. Destination weddings come with their own set of challenges, from time zones to cultural nuances, so be prepared to practice extra patience and trust your planning team. And once the celebrations begin, let go of the details and focus on what truly matters—your happiness and connection with your partner.”
