Areej and Harsh, Goa
From a nostalgia fueled pool party to a rustic sunset wedding, this couple’s intimate nuptials at Resort Rio was filled with joyous revelries.
Areej Shaik, a makeup artist, and Harsh Dugar, a corporate professional’s wedding in Goa was a celebration replete with cheerful moments and nostalgic elements. Hosted in the month of March at the vast and luxurious environs of Resort Rio in Goa which is nestled on the banks of River Baga, their wedding spurred everyone to turn their vacation mode on. A perfect expression of the couple’s vivacious personalities, this union orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite – Trunnk in Love knocked it out of the park with its vibrancy.
How They Met
Areej and Harsh started off as friends right after they were Introduced by common friends but they soon transitioned into a full-fledged relationship!
In order to pop the big question, Harsh jetted off to Thailand with Areej on the pretense of a vacation. Once there, he put his plan in action as he asked Areej for her hand in a picture-perfect proposal.
Areej shares, “Harsh’s sister helped us out as she worked in tandem with our planners to decide the perfect venue. After considering many locations, we eventually narrowed it down to Goa keeping its accessibility in mind. Resort Rio was an absolute gem of a place! It fit all our requirements with its lush open-air spaces along the Baga river and luxurious hospitality which was perfect for our intimate wedding. Moreover, they cater to a variety of culinary tastes as they have several in-house restaurants where our guests could indulge themselves thoroughly. Needless to say, the moment we set our eyes on it, we were thrilled. Their swim-up bar, especially, was a hit amongst our friends during the pool party as most of them could be found there enjoying drinks and chatting away!”
Spearheaded by wedding planner Trunnk in Love, the wedding went exactly as the couple had envisioned. Impressed by the planning team, Areej happily shares, “We loved the attention to detail that Trunnk in Love instilled throughout the wedding. They were with us at every step of the way. Be it ideation, or the execution to ensure our last-minute requests were completed! Their entire team is extremely approachable and flexible as they were ready to improvise and iterate at any time. In fact, we had a chaiwala especially flown down from Calcutta who was available 24×7 for 2 days of the wedding festivities. He made his special masala chai and malai toast at all hours – odd or not!
Thanks to Trunnk in Love, our wedding which followed every COVID-19 protocol was not only enjoyable for us but also for our guests. We would happily work with them again!”
Areej shares, “Since both of us hail from Mumbai and are huge fans of brunches, our pool party was a big Mumbai style brunch! The spread included lip-smacking dishes like Bombay style gini, schezwan and peri peri dosas along with kebabs, tikkas, coconut water and ice golas. Additionally we also curated a list of all the 90’s chocolates we loved and grew up with. Phantom cigarettes, Kismi, Pan Rasna, Fatafat, Melody, Mango Bite, Gems, etc. were all sourced and presented to everyone who indulged to their heart’s content.”
“Keeping our personalities in mind, we wanted to have an informal cocktail event rather than a traditional sangeet ceremony. For our entry, a fairy light entryway was constructed and inspired by our favorite TV show ‘The Office’ we made a resounding entry! Eventually, we mingled with our guests and grooved to peppy music.”, shares Areej.
For their Haldi ceremony, Areej and Harsh chose to take a more traditional route with decor that was swathed in hues of yellow and red. Held on one of the resort’s vast lawns and lit up by the sun, the Haldi event exuded joy with elements like bangles, flowers and daffodils in the decor.
Areej shares, “Harsh was adamant on riding a red vespa and that’s exactly how he led his baarat! As for myself, my bride tribe and I weren’t far behind as we executed a flash mob on the song ‘Jerusalema’ for the bridal entry. Logs, dry roots, roses, candles and deep maroon drapes were peppered artfully across the venue giving it a rustic vibe. For the mandap however, we wanted everyone to feel the spirit of Goa, and hence opted for an open mandap with the colorful sunset sky acting as the backdrop. I think we absolutely nailed our rustic wedding theme! After the wedding, all of us congregated for a dreamy dinner under the stars which was an ethereal experience.”
Advice For Couples
Areej advises, “Hire a wedding planner for sure! Moreover, do thorough research while picking the ideal one so that you can be carefree and have the time of your life at your own wedding! Don’t overthink, and remember to leave as many decisions as you can to your trusted planner.”
