Gagan and Kimi, Udaipur, Rajasthan

From a fun mehendi at Udaipur's Chunda Palace to a gurudwara wedding ceremony, Kimi and Gagan's wedding included regal flourishes and the colorful essence of Rajasthan.

Gagan and Kimi always envisioned their wedding to be an elegant and regal one, yet intimate and memorable for their near and dear ones at the same time. Here, the couple share how they planned a traditional wedding at the gorgeous Chunda Palace in Udaipur.

How We Met
“Gagan and I met through common friends. It was our mutual love of cricket that brought us together. Our first date was at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds, in Australia, where the 2015 Cricket World Cup final was held,” shares Kimi.

Wedding Planning
“The vision we had for our wedding was that it had to be elegant and regal yet intimate, and we wanted the essence of simplicity to go a long way. We hired ‘Regal Weddings’ to help plan the wedding logistics which made everything so much easier and stress-free for us. They executed our vision perfectly that we couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Wedding Venue
“Our first step was to find a location that could speak for itself and which required very little to bring out the best in the place. So we settled on the ‘City of Lakes’ – Udaipur, Rajasthan. Our next aim was for each wedding function to be unique from each other. The team at Chunda Palace, which we chose as our wedding destination, did an amazing job in assisting us to plan our wedding. They truly went above and beyond our expectations.”

Wedding Functions

Mehndi
“We wanted our mehndi night to be a fun one, so we decided that the event would have a ‘Shades of Marigold’ theme. This was the perfect opportunity for our decorators to be creative and bring out the essence of Rajasthan with their designs. We decided that the perfect location would be the Pratap Chowk area in the heritage Chunda Palace hotel. The decorations all centered around different shades of marigold blooms.” From the colorful umbrellas on colorfully draped tables to the vibrant floral accents, the function was resplendent with a traditional and vibrant visual appeal.

Sangeet
Inspired by the opulence of the Chunda Palace, the couple wanted to recreate a royal experience for everyone. They wanted to showcase the beauty and grandeur of the lovely historic destination for their loved ones. The sangeet function included synchronized dance performances by family and friends as well as singing. The highlight of the decor was the see-through bar façade with hanging puppets. Kimi looked gorgeous in a bright pink lehenga with a floral-print blouse and yellow dupatta, Gagan looked handsome in a black and beige bandhgala outfit with striking white embroidery on the jacket.

Wedding
Kimi and Gagan both wanted an intimate Gurudwara wedding with only close family and relatives attending. This ceremony took place at the Gurudwara Sachkhand in Udaipur. The serene vibe of the gurudwara made for a lovely wedding venue and it turned out to be an understated yet sophisticated wedding. The bride wore a crimson and gold lehenga with a matching striped blouse and a net dupatta. She chose minimal gold jewellery such as a small ‘maang tikka’ (forehead ornament) and a long necklace. Gagan wore a beige sherwani and paired it with a crimson velvet dupatta and matching turban with pearl strings that made him look like royalty. The couple was all praises for the photographers who beautifully captured their big day. They share, “Candid Tales did a really good job with our wedding photography and videography. We will cherish these memories forever thanks to the lovely pictures.”

Reception
“The next big function was our reception at the Chunda Palace’s rooftop deck which looked magical under the stars. From day one, we envisaged that the decor for this event would be white and gold, and a fusion between Western and Indian.” The decor highlights for this event were the tiffany chairs and the replication of the table accents in the see-through bar.” Kimi donned a powder pink floral lehenga which she paired with a gold mirror work blouse, and Gagan wore a royal blue sherwani.
