London-based Garima and Sarfraz’s destination wedding at Kenilworth Resort, Goa was like a fairytale come true for them.
Office colleagues whose long friendship blossomed into love, Garima and Sarfraz had a beautiful Nikah followed by Pheras which was a celebration of their relationship and a true representation of two cultures coming together. Garima shares how they made their dream of a fairytale wedding come to life beautifully captured by WeddingSutra Favorite ND Photography.
How We Met
“The very first time I saw Sarfraz was in my office in Bangalore in 2010. I had recently joined the firm and he came to Bangalore to only leave for London after few months. It wasn’t an instant connection as we are very different people. But we eventually started talking and on the last day and he asked me if I could join him for shopping as he wanted to buy gifts for his family and friends. We spent whole day talking, chatting on random topics and ended up buying nothing!”
Proposal
“After a couple of months, I travelled to London for work and we would spend most of our free time together. Finally, he planned a sweet surprise proposal for me and popped the question at the London Eye.”
Wedding Functions
Haldi
“The wedding ceremonies started with Haldi function at the hotel’s lawns where our friends and family covered us with haldi to ‘cleanse us’ prior to our religious ceremony. It was filled with laughter and it was certainly a fun celebration as our friends were equally involved and enjoyed the evening. The decor theme was an explosion of colours such as bright pink and yellow as I wanted bright shades to stand out in contrast to the beautiful lush green lawns.”
Sangeet
“Our next function was the Sangeet which was another evening filled with dance performances. We made sure there was great food and drinks to go around. My red and pink lehenga for the sangeet turned out to be a stunner, while Sarfraz looked handsome in a regal velvet Bandhgala.”
Nikah
“Our Nikah was an intimate affair with just our closest family in presence. For us, this was perfect with the minimum amount of fuss. We will cherish the serenity of this special moment for rest of our lives.”
Pheras
“The theme for this event was based on white and gold to create a royal vibe, from the creamy drapes around the mandap to the floral arrangements. I wore a coral red lehenga with beautiful gold embroidery with a net dupatta. Sarfraz cut a fine figure in his black Bandhgala, and he paired this ensemble with a rich gold ‘pagdi’. “
Advice for couples getting married
“Enjoy your big day to the fullest. We loved the fact that we were able to keep the guest list compact, it felt more like a get together and the best thing was Sarfraz and I were able to greet every guest and interact with them throughout.”
