Jyoti and Karan, Goa
A beach wedding at sunset, a rustic reception and carnival-style games at the mehendi - Jyoti and Karan's Goa wedding included diverse themes, fun interactions, and picture-perfect backdrops.
The #JoKar wedding was a canvas of bright colors, cheery bonhomie, and stunning views. Chetana Bhat Photography freezes in frames the timeless moments of the duo’s nuptials in Goa. Here are some highlights of the wedding celebrations.
How We Met
Karan and Jyoti went to the same college but met only seven years later when they were introduced to each other through a common friend. This, however, was around the same time that Karan was pursuing his higher studies in Boston, US, while Jyoti was in Mumbai. As fate would have it, they ended up meeting each other every time Karan was in Mumbai. He realized his true feelings for her and one thing led to another. They decided to give their relationship a chance, and this decision changed their lives. Soon after, Karan took the next step and proposed to Jyoti.
Those who know Jyoti are aware of her innate ability to sniff out secrets and surprises, therefore planning a proposal was not easy for Karan. But he still managed to floor her with his surprise proposal! He took her out for dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel in Mumbai, and once they had finished their meal, he asked a waiter to click a picture of the two of them. This act may have looked spontaneous, but it was pre-planned. As they posed for the camera, Jyoti’s brother entered the frame in the back holding a placard that read ‘Will you marry me?’ Karan knew Jyoti would check her phone to see if she liked the photograph, and as she did just that! When she looked up from the camera in surprise, she found her family members and friends gathered around her. She said “Yes” to Karan’s proposal as loved ones congratulated her.
Jyoti and Karan had always dreamed of a destination wedding, so they found Goa to be the ideal choice of a wedding location. They hosted their friends and family at the Holiday Inn Resort Goa, a place they had fallen in love with from the time they had first seen it. The food and ambiance were just perfect, and they loved the location for the pheras – the beautiful beach.
Jyoti and Karan wanted a fun-filled, action-packed mehndi where their guests would have a good time. The answer lay in organizing lots of fun games that would give the event the vibe of a carnival. The decor for this function was a combination of various bright colors. The overall theme was casual and relaxed so guests could bond in an informal setting.
For the sangeet, the couple went for an an Indo-western theme. Karan dressed up in a monochrome blue bandhgala for the evening, while Jyoti stood out in her pale pink gown which provided a compelling contrast.
With easy beach access from the hotel, the location for the pheras was a no-brainer. Karan and Jyoti wanted the azure skies and blue waters lapping the sandy beach to be the natural backdrops for this event. The setting sun added a soft glow to the environs as the outdoor pheras got underway, and the sound of the waves provided the perfect soundtrack to this auspicious occasion. Karan wore a white sherwani with a gold wedding turban, and Jyoti wore a blush pink lehenga with a gold sequined blouse.
The reception theme was rustic and charming. A paneled wood wall with flowers in full bloom proved the be the perfect eye-catching backdrop for this elegant function. Inspired by a traditional white wedding, Karan wore a classic black tuxedo while Jyoti donned a white and golden gown. The duo even opted for a tiered wedding cake where some layers were made entirely of cupcakes.
